Besides, hair ties are a big deal, so your hair does not blow in the way, just as you are locking sites in a raider.

I also appreciate the humor in this thread. As far as I'm concerned, even after terrible events we will need humor to get us through...it'll be gallows humor, but a small smile or an outright laugh will help to temper the horror.

BTW ladies, a lesson learned from our daughter who was in the Air Force. Seems almost everyone in her Basic training class (female) lost their periods for the duration of the course, and a lot of them still hadn't gotten them again 3 or 4 months later. Seems nature sometimes helps in a period of high stress and takes away one of our stressors. So you won't probably need as many tampons as you might think (although they're probably still a good idea for other uses...think staunching bullet wounds).

Old bike tire innertubes cut into pieces makes a great firestarter, although smokey. Burns for a minute or two, and I carry in my Prius' trunk a baggie with Vaseline smeared cotton makeup removal pads. They make another good firestarter.

I have prepped for many years and ready for any scenario for my Family knowing this was a possibility. Good Luck to the rest of you.

Haha! This is so true! lol. Even during good times a man who can take care of his woman is very sexy! I guess I'm old fashioned, but I appreciate all that a man can do that some of us women cannot. I think men are their hottest when they come in all dirty from mowing the lawn or working in the yard.

I'm hoping this Armageddon will at least allow men to gain their respect back. The feminists have put you in a corner, afraid to be who you are. Afraid to say the wrong things. I see it everywhere and it makes me sad.

Pick up the supplies to make soap and practice now, skills are tradeable. A properly made liquid castile soap can be used to wash dishes, laundry, hands hair and bodies. A few essential oils will help make it feel more special, since castile soaps are high end products anyways.

Get lots of extra feminine products, for the cycles. multiple types.
Get puppy pads, if you have a female who goes in labor you will need them. Also useful for cleaning wounds and travel diaper pads.

When you think you have enough hair ties buy more. My hair reaches my bum, and I have 2 daughters. I have over a thousand of the big ones and the little plastic ones I have a thousand of too.

On the being clean thing, you can never have enough bleach. Buy pool bleach in the tab form and find out how to properly dilute it, Diseases are easily spread in dirty conditions and no one wants that.

Learn how to cook in cast iron, and or how to cook over an open fire or woodstove. I've mastered this, however not baking on the woodstove.

Get useful pets, be it chickens, rabbits, you will need meat. If you can't yourself, have the hubby learn to do it.

Vinegar is your friend, as is Baking soda, simple inexpensive products with a multitude of uses.

Great advice! UV.. can that be done through a big window? Or does it have to be outside in the sun?

Thanks HoneyDee! I have about 6 or so boxes of haircolor as well! Not to mention conditioner, toothpaste, mascara and all the things!! I actually even got a tube of Lotrimin (an anti-fungal cream), cortisone cream, Benadryl, vitamins, etc.

I also got a 20-pack of N95 masks today (that's all my small town hardware store had), goggles, kitty litter and even had my small town pharmacist hook me up with an "early refill" of my family's prescriptions. He agreed that there may be a shortage of a lot of meds coming soon.

Didn't even think of that! If people see weight on you, they'll want to know where your food stash is. Hmm..

I actually read "French Women don't get Fat" and part of the reasoning was because they eat little amounts on pretty plates!

Thank you Hellstar!! I think you creating a mail service is a great idea! It will certainly be needed, especially if we can't use our phones or computers.

If you are going to make soap, make sure you print the recipe you are planning to use. If they lock down the internet, you may not have access to all the good calculators. Make sure your recipe uses an oil you will have around after TSHTF. Of course, keep your lye dry!

Skip hair color ...I went gray back in 2007 and then went back to dyeing it. What a mistake. I went gray again three years ago and it’s a long pixie style. Fun and easy...soft and in good condition. One thing I have to have is my under eye concealer. But hair color...meh, we all age and it’s okay. Just keep yourself in good shape. You can dye your hair until the cows come home and dyeing your hair isn’t fooling anyone if you aren’t in good shape.

I've stocked the oils, The lye is up and away (I've toddlers) and the recipe is mine so pretty easy (I'll write it down anyways.
Castile soaps won't be possible in shtf, because they are all plant based, however if you cook it and don't hydrate it it stores in a jar well through time in like 1/5 the space.
Soaps are also a lot easier to make with modern tech like stick blenders and crockpots, So I've debated on how to do the rest and deliberating.
