How to use prepped rations to make them last longer
For every can opened, use only half or a third of whats in it whereas before you would hae used a whole can, now use less, pad it out with water and spices.

For every two days you eat food, take a day where you only take drinks, tea, coffee whatever, you'll get used to living like that.

For every day eating, try not to snack or have three meals.

Try to make different meals and tastes to overcome eating boredom, eating boredom will just make you eat mindessly.

Try to leave some of your rations till much later, eg dont drink all the coffee at once, youll be craving it later, try to have it sparingly and when you do use much less each time than you are used to using.

Keep a list of what you are using, if you do get a chance to go out bartering/looting/shopping, you'll know immediaetly what to replace.

We eat much MUCH more than we need to.

You could do just fine on one small bowl of oatmeal per day.

Yeah but we wouldn’t get all the nutrients. I’ve read that oatmeal milk and potatoes will give you everything you need. One meal a day is fine unless you are doing heavy labor.

That is my prepping plan. For about 50 bucks worth of rolled oats, white rice, salt and seasoning I know I can stretch the 2-3 weeks of food I typically have on hand plus whatever I forage, garden, or fish up from the local lakes for many months.

For example one can of soup could be one meal. It can also be stretched to five by adding rice and seasoning. Four pieces of bacon and three eggs is breakfast now. I can stretch that to seven with one slice or egg and some oatmeal each day.

Add in a little foraged teens or garden produce and what I eat in a day can easily stretch a week with super cheap oatmeal, rice, and salt and seasoning.

also if you are running short of water, save the liquid from cans, so the liquid from a can of tomatoes can be used to cook rice in, instead of water or even to drink if desperate for hydration.

Rice, pasta, and beans are great fillers and very cheap.

Also, if you are trimming any food to prepare it for cooking save the trimmings and make a broth from it. Don't throw anything out until you've extracted the most from it and, if possible, compost the rest.

Onion ends, potato and carrot peelings. That kind of stuff that most people don't think twice about. Put that in a pot of water and slow simmer. The aroma alone is worth the effort.

unless seasoned somewhat at it or at least having known real life hardships of some value...
you'll get into trouble with self-contol concerning your palate and screw yourself out of a balanced diet going for calories and taste because your still mired in routine and have all kinds of hooks in you, which your not fully aware of until you take the plunge and realize it's not like a camping trip, and there's no going back when home-sickness for comforts and regular modern normalcy which are only a long, cold, dead dream wells up and you become disoriented and desperate because of the physical and psychological attachments you've never been forced to detach from in a realistic way to actually understand the gravity of the challenge.

Therefore in terms of diet, having eaten all my emergency food three times over the last 20 years as it expires, knowing how it is to almost live for a time on nothing but my prep food.

This is what I recommend.
That you somehow, without disrupting the preservatives and spoiling the seals or suck, FIND A WAY to arrange your food into meals so your don't snack or nibble or eat a majority of one item in rabid desperation , like when you get a box of cookies and you haven't had sugar or sweets for a couple weeks, see what happens to your hard organized and planned for meals, going down in flames to your compulsions and societial OCD oriented spazums that will ruin your, and overmaster your resolve and will power. and fuck up your nutrition or end up with the remainder a large amount of one food type, that will not sustain properly for lack of full regiment of nutrition and calories.

I took the fat & drippings from a beef roast & poured it into a ziplock bag & threw it in the freezer.

That'll make one helluva beef-noodle soup one day banana2

Alo try to have a little bread with each meal to feel fuller, also water if possible, and if able to have ribs or other boned meats, when all is eaten reuse the bones in meals for the next few days for the flavour to come off the bones.

I've found tater-tots to be a great filler!

Nuke 5 or 6 of them and top a sammich with them.

Smash a few and cook with meat scraps (hash)...or nuke & then smash & mix with scrambled eggs.

Just a few tots can save alot of your other stuff.
