ScrumpTheTexan Forum Administrator 02/26/2020 09:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The Scottish parliament approved plans on Tuesday to make sanitary products freely available to all women, the first nation in the world to do so. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78510959 The legislation would make tampons and sanitary pads available at designated public places such as community centres, youth clubs and pharmacies, at an estimated annual cost of 24.1 million pounds ($31.2 million). The Period Products (Free Provision) Scotland Bill passed through its first stage with 112 votes in favour, none against and one abstention. It now moves to the second stage, where members of the devolved Scottish parliament can propose amendments. During the debate, the bill's proposer Monica Lennon said passing it would be a "milestone moment for normalising menstruation in Scotland and sending out that real signal to people in this country about how seriously parliament takes gender equality." Anonymous Coward User ID: 5461667 United States 02/26/2020 09:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I just looked and Scotland has 5.3 million people. At least half are women or girls. 2.6 million females. They budgeted 31 million pounds for the annual cost. It works out to 12 pounds per year per woman. Do they not menstruate monthly, do they expect millions not to avail themselves of this 'free stuff' or do they intend to increase funding perpetually? What about stores that offer these products for sale? Will they stop or just keep buying them whether they go sold or lie there on the shelf? Socialism is not simple. Or sensible. Teens will be raiding these freebies and decorating the local high schools with them, littering, using them for handy wipes, polishing cars or who knows what. |

We also get free eye tests (not in England) and also nicotine therapy such as patches. Some folks cant afford to get their eyes tested and do without (i think the NHS also give cheap spectacles).
