I admit that I only read a few pages of this thread, so what I am about to say may already be stated.
I agree with your initial post OP. The extreme polarization of the left and right make them in a way "blood related".
Ideals in the mirror are closer than they appear.
These extreme sides cannot fathom that it is BY DESIGN. A populous divided is easily controlled. Their choose is an illusion.
People want change. But they want change in others, not themselves.
Just my initial thoughts.
