WE ALL DOOMED MAN Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19750096 Yea right, more people died of gunshots in chicago over the weekend. The point of this thread is the lack of testing thus far in the U.S. Dumb fuck. I have information on how to avoid gun violence in Chicago. There are parts of Chicago I won't go to, along with times of the day and what I'm wearing. And I know that if I get shot I cna go to an ER and they will know exactly what to do and I will be treated. Unfortunately, I have no reliable information on the Coronavirus: I don'tknow who has it; I have no idea about how deadly it is; I don't know if there is a vaccine in the future; and it sure seems like the people who should be taking care of me are woefully ignorant or more interested in their stock portfolio than the safety of me and my neighborhood. |

People, we are not testing for this in the USA right now. It is the ONLY reason that we are not seeing new reported cases. [link to www.cdc.gov (secure)] "IRR began distribution of the test kits to states, but shortly thereafter performance issues were identified related to a problem in the manufacturing of one of the reagents which led to laboratories not being able to verify the test performance. CDC is remanufacturing the reagents with more robust quality control measures. New tests will be distributed once this issue has been addressed. CDC continues to perform initial and confirmatory testing." |

Quoting: Indiana Jones Relax people wondering if half the pop is walking around with this thing right now....how would we know? I'm a nurse and I don't know if people have flu, bronchitis, bad cold virus or what... If it doesn't become severe....most people stay home and self care BINGO! How many have died this "flu" season? 16,000 from the common flu in the USA, and no one freaked out. We have information on the flu! I know I'm not likely to die of the flu or even get very sick, so the risk is minimal. You can bet I take a lot of care when if I think I have it and I am around my elderly grandparents though! Likewise, if I feel really shitty, I can get relief from meds and if it develops into a chest infection I can get meds that will take care of that. We don't have this kind of knowledge about Covid-19 so I am going to be extra careful to avoid it and make sure my family does as well. |

Samples being shipped to labs and waiting days for results. Apparently there are only five states with labs set up to do this testing. I mean WTF! This has to be priority #1 It's really disappointing that authorities are not talking about this, instead touting low numbers of cases, talking about what a great job everyone's doing etc. |

And I've had extensive training in mass casualty care and incident command. I mean, I know some stuff and my wife's an ICU/ER RN and I can assure you, we ain't fuckin' ready. |

"In early February, the CDC sent testing kits to labs across the U.S., but a glitch in the kits made them unusable. Now, more than a month later, just five state health departments — in California, Illinois, Nebraska, Nevada and Tennessee — as well as the CDC, have the ability to test for the virus, known as SARS-CoV-2." "As the new coronavirus continues to infect people around the world, the rush to test for the virus has taken on a new urgency. But the United States is lagging on that front, in part due to faulty test kits and strict regulations, experts told Live Science. "We're not remotely prepared," Dr. Alex Greninger, an assistant professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and an assistant director of the Clinical Virology Laboratory at the University of Washington Medical Center, told Live Science." Indie is right. He chose his words carefully. If they aren't testing people then they have all the kits they need. |

The tests themselvs were faulty. They kept coming back as "inconclusive", not negative OR positive. There was an article from Fox 5 ATL station about it yesterday. I made a thread on it and then posted it in 2 other threads but nobody seemed.to care The article said they'd tested over 1000 people with the faulty test. Those people are out roaming around I guesz |
