Mental Case User ID: 77705343 United States 02/27/2020 06:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | All oil burns. Take a skillet with a lid...and a small amount of veggie oil or shortening...twist up small pieces of paper towel as wicks, drop them in the oil and light them. POOF! Instant burner to cook on. Use the lid to snuff out the flames when done. If I am going to be damned...I am going to be damned for who I really am! |

JJ Johns (OP) J to the 3rd User ID: 78471388 Switzerland 02/27/2020 06:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You need propane, or a wood stove as a back up. If SHTF, you know the workers won't be keeping the gas and electric running. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78534944 a wood stove isn't possible, but i have a small camping stove that would work. i'm going to see about how i can attach larger tanks to it. thank . . No clotshot, NEVER! . Mad as hell! . |

Quoting: JJ Johns what is the rule of thumb on this prepers? any advice? stay well glp friends Always have Propane and Propane accessory's!! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 74914224 United States 02/27/2020 06:43 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | thanks for the input. Quoting: JJ Johns what is the mix of food that you can eat raw to food you need to cook? 50/50? Canned food can be eaten without heating it up. If you have a garden, you can plant veggies that can be eaten raw. Raw is very healthy for those things that can be digested raw. I wouldn't worry about a mix %. Just get and store what you can. Because there's a good chance it won't be enough anyway when your relatives come knocking. The more renewable food supplies you have (garden, orchard, rabbits, chickens, fish, etc.) the better. Ways to conserve energy: Thermos cooker: In a pot, bring your food to a boil, then immediately pour it into a thermos, the bigger, the better. Then place that thermos in an insulated environment, such as bundled inside blankets, etc. for several hours. When you pull it out, the food will be fully cooked. Homemade solar oven: Buy a car windshield reflector, or glue alum. foil inside a medium-sized box. Then buy a clear oven bag that can handle high temps. Get a twist tie or something to close it air tight. The bag must be big enough to fit a small camping cooking pot inside. Then buy a small camping cooking mess kit or small pot to cook in. Then buy BBQ grill paint, the black high-temp paint, and paint the cooking pot. Then set up your reflector to catch the sun and reflect it to a central point you wish to cook at. Then put your food in the black pot, then put the pot into the oven bag, along with 3 or 4 small rocks under it to elevate it an inch or so above the ground. Then seal the bag with the twist tie to make it airtight. Place it in the center of your reflector. It will get VERY hot inside the pot and cook your food, if you have sufficient sunlight. But this take awhile. It is a slow cook. And you should adjust the reflector every 30 min. or so to keep the sunlight focused on the pot. The mechanics behind this are the greenhouse effect inside the clear plastic bag, and the absorption of that by the black paint. It's quite effective. Of course in the summertime in southern climates your car can augment the bag. Just set your car & windshield toward the sun, and put the bagged black pot on a well-insulated pad on your dash to catch the radiant heat. But the bag must be air tight. Lose the air 7 you lose the heat. Homemade Solar Water Heater: This same concept works for water heaters too. Just scale up the operation and put a black barrel/drum in the center of the 'greenhouse'. |

They're like a person with 100 cans but no can opener. I don't know what lies they told you, but I can promise they were lies. There's a fine line between training, trauma, and torture. |
