When the bottle is almost full, take piece of cotton with alcohol in it, light it up and throw it in the bottle, closing it while it is still burning. The fire will consume all oxygen inside, preventing the rice to spoil even further. Seal the cap with wax and store it away from light or cover it with aluminum foil. MaybeTrollingUAgain |

To keep them fresh a long time you need to vacuum seal them up. Once long ago I tried storing white rice for a long time not vacuum sealed but in mason jars with new seals. We found out after 6 months the rice began to get a dry dog food scent to it. It had gone bad I guess. Had to toss a lot out. |

It is also very low in gluten, too, for those with celiac disease. Quoting: Bailey Howe If you are buying rice please BUY some Oil so you can put it in the pot when its cooking /steaming esp. jasmine rice/ basmati rice. You only need a little bit . If you use corn oil your rice will taste like like corn. Strongtasting olive oil is also discouraged. Oil is shelf stable as you know. If you prefer to add butter thats not a problem either...its just butter has to be refrigerated. On the medicinal side of rice: if you are having stomach problems and have to go alot stop wating everything and cook up some rice with no oil but add a little salt. Then add a dollop or two of PLAIN yogurt...frankly its better to make that at home, too, but its a bit time consuming. Theres plenty of plain yogurt in the dairy aisle. just thought i would throw these thoughts out to all ...and hope theres some benefit for you. Asian family. Tablespoon of coconut oil. But we have a rice steamer. Just no other way. Oh and coconut oil will help keep the rice longer if no refrigeration. Good luck |

If you don't think so, then you are what is called "an idiot.” If you believe stuff but fear the label, you are what is called "a coward.” --David B Collum |

Awesome tip You can also get "oxygen busters" (i think they are just powdered iron that rusts and consumes oxygen) packets you can throw in. But I like this tip a lot. It's low tech on the surface but deceptively sophisticated |
