Re: Just got back from Walmart and Sams
There is definitely a supply chain interruption going on. No flour, noodles, beans, rice, soup, frozen vegetables, eggs, paper products, chlorine products, cleaning products, soap, detergents, meats, or bacon, or canned tuna.

Very low stock of cheese, fish, other canned goods, fresh vegetables, bottled water, and health implements.

People didn't appear to be panic buying but we're generally walking around with a shocked look on their face.

I'm not sure if these stores will be able to stay open as it appears that very soon they will not have anything left to sell. I've never seen anything like this, even following earthquakes and hurricanes.

In my local Wal-Mart the front by the entrance usually has pallets full of bulk stock. Today I noticed that it's full of bicycles! Never seen this before. Where's all the stock?

Re: Just got back from Walmart and Sams
As always, you failed to mention where you live...where is this happening ? I'm a Wal-Mart cashier in n.e. Alabama ..yes we are low on some bottled water , but there's still plenty of beans, rice, etc. What I've noticed people buying mostly is bottled water, beans, hormel ready made meals, vitamin c products , cold and flu products, Lysol wipes, bleach. I was off today but go back tomorrow ... If I notice anything out of the ordinary tomarrow , i will post tomorrow night.
 Quoting: Halfbreedgal 70215954

At Alex City Walmart on Saturday, everything seemed fully stocked and quite normal...except for Bacon Spam, which, sadly, was picked clean. (My guilty pleasure.)

The only thing I noticed that made me think the store was expecting a run, was the huge display of large bags of dog food, set out right in the 'middle' of the next to last aisle. The day before, my sister and her husband made a trip down to Costco in Montgomery to pick up tons of food & cookies for their 6 dogs...just in case things go south sooner than later.

Stocking up for critters -who grow very use to their regular food- may be more important right now, while it's still readily available.

...

Since there had been so many accusations on the thread that I'm making it all up... I actually went and started looking up where these products are made and yes, they all are made in China.

All the ridiculous classism on the thread is silly. Seems a lot of people don't care for Walmart. I don't really either, but I'm not rich and have to source stuff as cheaply as possible.

FWIW most of the section 8 crowd here seems to shop at Smith's (Kroger). They have special pricing on some items through WIC.

Walmart typically has trucks coming in daily here, so I feel like this is a little more than just a simple run on goods by preppers.
 Quoting: Constant Parad0x

You will have to explain the shelves being restocked.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71124074

I rather suspect that if they were able to restock, they'd have done that already.
 Quoting: Constant Parad0x

Btw. There are NO seafood products of any kind in Walmart that originate from China. They banned those long ago and do extensive genetic testing to assure it stays that way.
 Quoting: Cap’n Obvious

That may explain why they had fish, then.

Although, I'm pretty sure their frozen prepacked Tilapia & Cod comes from China.

I feel the shock in New York. Driving home on the Long Island expressway. Can’t really explain it and don’t know if it’s just me? Costco was asking if we wanted our carts wiped down with sanitizing wipes. Everyone was asked. This never used to happen ever.

It's all the Liberal states that are panicking...

I live in Az, mountains, everything is stocked and normal.

We have 3 Walmart's, numerous other grocery stores and

Safeway's...all stocked.

My sons went to Phoenix...saw nothing out of the ordinary.

I have a work mate who went there too.

Same deal...no one panicking and everything was stocked.

I've been watching the stores for a couple of weeks. I suspect we WILL start seeing shortages very soon.

You mean you WISH to see shortages very soon because it makes you feel better.

You might be on to something there. The store we frequent is not Walmart and has a slightly different clientele (more middle class, I guess).

Plenty of section 8 in this city and I've never seen the stores empty like this.

Sam's entire paper and meat sections are empty. Many of the canned goods sections are also completely empty.

The Walmart had numerous empty shelves. Nearly the entire frozen vegetable section cases are empty.

I think people just panic bought most of that stuff up while you weren't around, because a lot of those things are rarely imported. they're mostly made in the USA and are the kinds of things people would stock up on when panic shopping.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77555595

Costco was similar today, but it was definitely panic buying. Place was full and clorox products were sold out. Water was going fast.

Hey Op, I hear Settebello is really good. Is that the best pizza in town? Also, are there any reasonable priced buffets that you would recommend?

Thanks.

MOZarks. Walmart canned food aisle decimated. Very rural.

Good. People should buy food that lasts.

walmart will probably be shutting down stores and turning them into fema quarantine centers.

Most their product will be sent to other areas.

There must really be a problem if they want you to stop shopping. Maybe they're trying to slow down the zombie apocolypse, if the shelves are bare too soon everyone will know something is up. very creepy ! I remember back in the 80s they used to say "shop till you drop", they wanted people to shop, suddenly it's bad to shop ? Isn't shopping good for the economy ? When they want you to stop spending money something is very odd. Just a thought.

Hey neighbor. That's where my 99 Cent Store is located, Rainbow & Spring Mountain. A live a few miles just East.

Stopped going grocery shopping a month ago as I've been sheltering in place. Stocked up over the last several months on Jasmine rice, Italian pasta, canned beans, potatoes, 3 kinds of onions. Took advantage of those locally on Keto diets creating good sales on standard prep items.

Amazon/Whole Foods delivery has been having sales on fresh food items. They've gotten extremely popular & busy. Keep selling out of the $1 canned vegetables which luckily I don't really like.

I might go check the one near Eastern in Silverado Ranch tomorrow just to see if I can grab the stuff I wasn't able to pick up today.
