An update, as I said long ago, this virus did not wind up spreading as quickly as I thought it would. Neither was it as deadly as it first appeared.


I still think I was right to warn my countrymen about the chaos this would bring us though, and I don't think I was wrong about that.


Morever, I never advocated for mandatory "lockdowns" or shutdowns of businesses in any state, and I have never advocated for mandatory masks, vaccination etc.

In fact, I have always warned that a vaccination might not be available in time to to do much good, that it might not be very effective at all and that, like other vaccinations, it might not be safe.


I, therefore, offer an overview of where we stand right now:

If we accept at face value the numbers coming out of the government about the pandemic (and I am just as skeptical of their numbers regarding cases, deaths, and positivity as many of you), this is a very mild pandemic indeed.

Almost eight months since the first case was detected in the US (Jan. 21), about two percent of the country has been infected (6,600,566 out of about 330 million). Of these less than three percent have died, claiming the lives (perhaps) of only about .06% of the population.


Whatever this is, this is not exactly the Black Death. In fact, it may not even be the Spanish Flu -- that disease claimed the lives of perhaps 675,000 people over a hundred years ago, when our population was much, much smaller.


I think it is fair to say, therefore, that we have as a society overreacted to this virus, and we do considerable damage to our own country by continuing to shutdown vast swaths of the economy for what appears to be (even accepting the government's questionable numbers) a very low-grade "pandemic".


This is not necessarily the last update I will provide on the progress of the pandemic in the US though I have scaled back my posting on this site a great deal lately.

If there is significant news, I will post it.

The good news that can be taken away from this is that the case mortality rate of around three percent must be at least five times higher than it should be.


If the deaths are measured against 33 million Americans infected, that means the case mortality rate should only be around .6%

At 100 percent infected, we could be looking at millions dead.
