Possible interaction between Toxoplasma and Covid?... significant if true.
Clues to an interaction between Covid and Toxoplasma?

Over the cause of time since we got to know Covid, several clues to some sort of interaction with Toxoplasma infection has surfaced, these are:

1. The basic Covid symptoms are almost identical to those of acute toxoplasmosis.

2. The serious Covid symptoms the same as those with serious acute toxoplasmosis, including respiratory failure, heart failure, seizures, and CNS related symptoms.

3. Covid doesn’t seem to have serious effects on children, teens, and young adults. Toxoplasma infection rates follow our age, i.e the older you are, the higher the probability for Toxoplasma infection. Some 30-50% of the 50-year-olds are infected.

Acute Toxoplasmosis displays symptoms such as:

* Fever
* Headache
* Dry cough
* Shortness of breath
* Fatigue
* Seizures
* Lung problems that may resemble tuberculosis or pneumonia
* Cardiac arrest

….which is virtually identical to Covid.

This conjecture suggests that someone “out there” starts looking into if there is a causal correlation. I will for my part keep working on the data as it surfaces and will post updates along the way.

There has to be a binary component that makes it more deadly in some cases. This could be it.

In all Covid cases with pneumonia, there are ground-glass opacities in the lungs.

In all Toxoplasmosis cases with pneumonia, there are ground-glass opacities in the lungs.

Toxoplasma cysts are present in the lungs - and the longer the infection the more cysts.

In a Covid cohort, leukocytosis was detected in 1/3 of the patients and lymphocytosis in 2/3 of patients.

One of the laboratory hallmarks of toxoplasmosis is lymphocytosis and the presence of atypical lymphocytes

Both leukopenia and leukocytosis may be observed in clinical toxoplasmosis

Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is associated with disseminated toxoplasmosis.

ARDS is one of the most severe effects of Covid.

So, you think they are lying about the disease origin? That’s a parasitic..so a little dewormer ought to do the trick? But seriously, wouldn’t toxoplasma be difficult to transmit? It’s from infected cats. I mean Chinese do eat cats, but do you think it could become aerosolized?

No - Covid is Covid, no matter the origin. What I am arguing is that there could be significant comorbidity with possible activation of Toxoplasma. Toxoplasma is present in half of the adult population and even more if you are +70 years old.

There are several pathways for how Covid could be activating Toxoplasma, thus developing Toxoplasmosis in the infected individual.

Re: Possible interaction between Toxoplasma and Covid?... significant if true.
I was thinking of that the other day. It's possible

In people whose immune defenses are weakened dormant toxoplasmosis can reactivate and cause a severe brain infection (encephalitis), which can lead to seizures and other neurological problems.

If toxoplasmosis affects the lungs, there can be shortness of breath, fever, a dry cough, coughing up of blood and, eventually, respiratory failure.

Spot on. If one looks at the data on the severity of Covid, it certainly reflects the distribution of Toxoplasma in the population.....and so does the reported symptoms.

Covid mortality is extremely low in the younger population (less than 0,5%) and starts growing exponentially from some 40 years of age.

This corresponds very well with the effects of Toxoplasma infection, as this has to have spread in the body over a number of years for an acute Toxoplasmosis to develop serious symptoms.

Primary or acute infection of Toxoplasma in immunocompetent patients can be asymptomatic or result in the following clinical manifestations, alone or in combination: I have added a Covod notification where Covid is presented with the same symptoms...

• Chorioretinitis
• Lymphadenopathy (Covid)
• Fever (Covid)
• Headache (Covid)
• Myalgias, i.e muscle pain (Covid)
• Arthralgias, i.e joint pain (Covid)
• Sore throat (Covid)
• Stiff neck
• Nausea (Covid)
• Abdominal pain (Covid)
• Diarrhea (Covid)
• Anorexia
• Rash
• Confusion (Covid)
• Earache
• Eye pain
• General malaise and/or fatigue (Covid)
• Unexplained hepatitis
• Myositis, and/or myocarditis (Covid)
• Community-acquired pneumonia (Covid…big time)
• Death in immunocompetent patients (Covid)

Toxoplasmic pneumonia has been classically associated with bilateral interstitial pulmonary infiltrates

“Histological examination showed bilateral diffuse alveolar damage (...) Interstitial mononuclear inflammatory infiltrates” (Covid)

“Interstitial mononuclear inflammatory infiltrates, dominated by lymphocytes, were seen in both lungs” (Covid)

Infection usually occurs by eating undercooked contaminated meat, exposure from infected cat feces, or mother-to-child transmission during pregnancy.

A hallmark of Toxoplasma is its relation to Schizophrenia....

[link to www.chinaxiv.org]

We noticed an unusual increase of first-time patients with schizophrenia (F20) in January 2020 since the outbreak of COVID-19. The aim of this retrospective study is to validate this observation and find potential risk factors, if applicable. A total number of 13,783 records from outpatients in January 2020 were investigated thoroughly. Comparisons between incidence of schizophrenia in outpatients in January 2020 and similar periods of 2017-2019 were made to minimize seasonal influence. Relationship of incidence of schizophrenia and COVID-19 infections in China was calculated. Limited personal information (age, gender, approximate residence) was analyzed to find risk factors.After excluding seasonal factors such as Spring festival, a positive relationship between incidence of schizophrenia in first-time patients and countrywide epidemic situation was found. Statistical results further showed a significant increase of median age from 39 to 50 for first-time patients diagnosed with schizophrenia which is unusual. Meanwhile, a slight but not significant change was found in distribution of gender and approximate residence (urban/suburb). Our data supported that COVID-19 outbreak increased risk of schizophrenia in aged adults which is consistent with the fact that COVID-19 is more lethal to elders. We strongly appeal that public healthcare in countries either with or without infected patients should prepare in advance for potential risks in public mental health.

Several Covid patients have been successfully treated with an antiviral called "Lopinavir/ritonavir"....which incidently is effective towards Toxoplasma too:

"Lopinavir/ritonavir caused parasitological improvement in acute toxoplasmosis.
Both forms prevented the egress of the tachyzoites.
They led to apoptosis and autophagy of the tachyzoites.
They led to disruption of the parasitophorous vacuole and the nanotubular network."

Re: Possible interaction between Toxoplasma and Covid?... significant if true.
Compressed version.

Consider this:

Billions of adults all over the world have a so-called “latent infection”.

In China and the West, this infection is present in some 25% of the population.

Over time, the infection spreads to the brain, heart, lungs and muscle tissue in the form of cysts – so the longer a person has had the infection, the more it will have spread throughout the body.

It is estimated that the infection rate – as a rule of thumb – follows your age, i.e if you are 20 years old the probability of being infected is 20%, if you are 70 years old the probability is 70%.

The distribution of the infection in the body is orders of magnitude larger in a 70-year-old than in a 20-year-old.

IF the immune system is challenged – this infection can go from “latent” to “acute”, and it will show the following symptoms:

• Dry cough
• Fever
• Headache
• Flu-like symptoms

If it develops further it will have some of the following symptoms:

• Pneumonia and Acute Respiratory Distress
• Seizures
• Cardiac arrest

...and various central nervous system (CNS) disturbances.

These symptoms are almost identical to those ascribed to Covid-19.

The infection in question is called Toxoplasma gondii which is a single-celled parasite.

If/when it becomes a disease, it is called Toxoplasmosis.

Toxoplasmosis has an incubation time of 14-20 days.

Covid patients have been successfully treated with Lopinavir/ritonavir...that (also) destroys Toxoplasma.

Perhaps the virus somehow triggers Toxoplasmosis?

Toxoplasmosis can be treated and 100% cured once the diagnosis is made.

“Cardiac toxoplasmosis was common in this necropsy series..”

Covid: Acute Kidney Injury
Toxoplasma: “The above examples clearly illustrate the close association between toxoplasmosis and renal function.."

Covid: Hypoproteinemia
