The last place you want to go is the doctor. Unless he has a small practice. Stay away from hospitals.

I am in Jefferson Parish (Metairie).

Jazz Fest and French Quarter Fest are still on, no cancellations yet. I have only seen one person wearing a mask so far, and that was a random pedestrian in Lakeview. The grocery stores seem to be stocked as usual, but Dorignac's now has new displays of cleaning supplies.

Gotta make groceries.. LOL
 Quoting: Loup Garou

I tried making groceries at Walmart grocery and picking them up at the Funky Walmart near me. The girl came out with my stuff and got right up in my face to get a signature.

It freaked me out. Guess I will be making groceries at 5am at the 24 hour walmart. LOL.

Making Groceries

Old-timers in New Orleans "make groceries" at the store. This is another one that has French origins, as a rough translation from "faire son marché," which means to do one's grocery shopping. Since "faire" means both "to do" and "to make," making groceries came from a slight error in translation from French to English.

MK- You in NOLA?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76604177

I'm closer to Hammond/Ponchatoula area
 Quoting: MKPitBull

I’m on Northshore. Ran by Walmart on way home to top off only to find NO TOILET PAPER! Luckily I had been stocking.... was only a few busted packs.

Little to no Clorox wipes or cleaner... even generic

Water was very low except for Dansani. Gallon jugs picked over as well.

No rubbing alcohol. Grabbed some bottles of the sippin kind and went to Big Lots
 Quoting: LeaLea1

BR here, Walmart near me looks like a Cat 5 is in the gulf. People are pretty much buying cold medicine, toliet paper and hurricane preps. Regular food is all good, except canned veggies and knorr rice packages-- there are none to be had! Cleaning supplies and bleach have been sold out for about a week everywhere.
 Quoting: girlie45

That's crazy because I'm just outside of BR and my Walmart has been out of masks for weeks. I bought some of that new MicroBan cleaner just last week. They still had plenty of Clorox wipes. Go to some of the outlying Walmarts or Dollar Generals if you still need stuff. I'd be willing to bet Baker is still full on cleaning supplies.

But yeah, for the most part I just got what I do for a hurricane. Maybe a little more cleaners. Otherwise, we all know the drill.

I've got a feeling that this mess isnt real but that wont stop our govenor from locking us down. So I've prepped anyway. Best of luck to you and yours!! We may have horrible health care but we have the best people!

We both laughed about him having Covid. We had not heard about the cases in NOLA. I think he went to sleep not knowing that there are now now several cases in LA.

This may be the beginning

I just heard as well. I’m going to ask my friend who is a nurse and see what she’s heard. She works at a Nursing Home and last week they were trying to prepare.

Got to work this morning and started cleaning desks and door knobs. Probably useless at this point. My 15 yr old is going to loose her shit when she hears this. She would go to school in a Hazmat suit at this point if she could.

It might be a good idea to follow the Louisiana Department of Health on Twitter. They are going to keep updating with current information.

For everyone looking for supplies make sure to hit up the Dollar Generals, Big Lots and Rouses....they had plenty. Might not after today. Last night my friend ran to Home Depot and she said they had Lysol and cleaning stuff and Charmin value packs.

BATON ROUGE - The Louisiana Nursing Home Association took a strong position in their efforts to prevent the Coronavirus from entering nursing homes in Louisiana. The virus is spreading across the country and right here in Louisiana.

"LNHA asks that the public support efforts to protect nursing facility residents by not visiting a nursing facility until further notice in order to limit potential exposure," Mark Berger, executive director of the Louisiana Nursing Home Association said. "Loved ones should call the nursing facility to arrange alternative ways to communicate with residents."
