From the University of Waterloo weather station website I found this alarming image the National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, CO took of the north pole. Could this be behind the recent weather anomolies?

--------

There has been lots of talk in the media about the melting polar sea ice.

Here is an image of the most recent (Aug 27th) ice cover compared to 2005 (the year that previously had the record for the lowest amount of sea ice).

Note the lack of ice cover throughout the entire northwest passage.

Also note that as well as there being a lot less ice, the ice that is there is much thinner.
