W TX here. Used to get military planes and heli's flying in all the time. We are stop-over point between Abilene and El Paso. Used to have lots of touch & go practice here. Seldom happens anymore. 2 days ago we had at least 7 or 8 military heli's fly into the local airport. Missed the first set, but the second group was 4, not troop carriers. Could have been gun ships, but they were a ways away. For sure not the big troop carriers, though. Came in from the southeast. Had to leave the house later so not sure if they stayed at our airport, or just fueled and headed west to either El Paso or points north or west. Sorry for no pics, but they were coming in from far enough south my phone would have showed little black dots.

First military aircraft I've seen in over 6 months.

Ohio here. My family is friends with our church Pastor and his family. The Pastor's wife told my wife yesterday Ohio would be going into a 14 day self quarantine. Not sure when it starts, my wife wasn't that inquisitive to ask. She said they haven't announced it yet, but they are in communications with various health officials, including the White House, and that's where they got the info. Supposedly, the only reasons to be going out would be banking, groceries, and medical care.

The problem is the supply chain. Army's "march on their stomachs". So long as there are adequate supplies, they can be expected to "behave" and do their job professionally.

The problem is when supplies are "in short supply". If you have not watched the mini-series "Jericho", now would be a good time! In that series, a contractor band of professional mercenaries called 'Ravenwood' (think 'Blackwater') are unleashed to go "gather supplies" from the populace. It goes as you might imagine. They first show up at city hall, lay down the "law", and then fan out to do door to door searching for "supplies". That would be food, ammo, fuel. Gold and silver would likely be confiscated as well. **ANY** resistance will be met with overwhelming force. You'd be lucky if they were even "quasi" professional in thier confiscating - such as leaving the women alone.

Posse Comitatus no longer really exists and hasn't since 2006 when the John Warner National Defense Authorization Act [HB5122] was signed into law by George Bush on October 17 of that year.

From that Act, the POTUS can authorize the US military to be deployed domestically to restore public order and enforce laws during a national emergency... and this certainly applies since it specifically mentions an epidemic as a cause for such a deployment.

The thing is, Warner's Act was repealed in 2008 and the Insurrection Act of 1807 again took precedence but that 2006 Act is still used as a guideline; then in 2011 Obama dipped his fingers into the pie and the law was again changed to include the Taliban and Al Quaida.

BUT:

The bottomline is found in the US Code under USC 18, 831 which allows the US Attorney General to ask the Sec Def for military assistance if regular law enforcement cannot cope with a given situation. State Governors also have this authority to ask for help. Look how Cuomo asked for the Army Corps of Engineers and how quickly Trump responded by saying he would look into it... he just needed for someone to open that door.

So, for all intents and purposes Posse Comitaus is today null and void.

Trump does have considerable authority to use his troops however he chooses and he doesn't need Congressional approval to do so - especially once a national emergency has been declared.

Realistically, we will probably soon see the military assiting via M*A*S*H units [and their related security]; they may also be called upon to sustain supply chains if trucks stop rolling from warehouses to stores - they may even end up helping the USPS process/deliver critical mail such as medical shipements.

Cholera outbreak, Spanish flu. We just didn't have the transportation capability that we have today.

So far we have lost roughly 6000 people world wide. That is a drop in the bucket. I agree that it will get worse before it gets better.

The only thing that concerns me is if this is a bio weapon and they are hiding that fact.
