Re: To stock up on gasoline or not !
Where I live here in SC gas was $1.58 so I filled both my vehicles, my boat and two 5 gal containers. I know in the long run it won't be enough but it will have to do. As long as the electric stays on I will be fine. I have a small generator and that's the reason I decided to buy the gas. I thought about purchasing a few more 5 gal containers but shit they want $40 each for them now so I passed.

So I have several contacts in the armed forces and a couple of them have warned to stock up on fuel. I know there have been several posts here about this yet I am not sure of the validity of this.

If there really is something way more sinister than the virus about to happen then yes , I could see where having some fuel reserves would be a good thing.

Or maybe if they do go ahead and initiate a 2 week or more nationwide quarantine then again, it would probably be a good idea to have extra fuel in case the power goes out.

Either way, we are all most certainly living in unsure, crazy times and the only way America will get through this is if we all stand together. Take care of your neighbors and they will take care of you!

At least fill your tank before you know there'll be a probable SHTF situation. Fill a few extra canisters too; you can always put it in your car if you don't use them. You don't actually know what's going to happen.

Still 1.83 in Myrtle Beach after 10 cents loyalty discount. I just now got back from filling three 2.5 gal cans. Thought being there may be disruptions trying to move it from refinery to stations and/or stations to us if workers are sick. If nothing happens then I have a pre-paid fill up, or gas for our generator. May fill 1 more next time I'm out and about.

Jesus Christ this madness.

It is standard protocol for military
(and preppers) to be stocked on fuel. Go follow some of the ex. special forces guys on instagram and see what they've said for years.

Of course you should fucking have gas. It doesn't mean we're going to run out. It means if your ass has to move and you don't have a backup, it doesn't fucking matter if the gas stations have gas or not, YOU'RE FUCKED.

buy gas and you can watch the Phase separation when ethanol in the fuel absorbs too much water, and separates from gasoline by dropping to the bottom of the tank since the ethanol and water mixture that results from phase separation is heavier than gasoline.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78648975

This is why if you live in coastal cities places like wawa have "boat fuel" this is non-ethanol 89 octane fuel. This is real gasoline before they started adulterating it with ethanol a decade or more ago. In general the stuff runs about 25-50cents a gallon more than the bastardized fuel. I only put non-ethanol fuel in my car unless i dont have a choice, I also notice a 2-3mpg difference less when I am in a situation where I have had to put the bastardized fuel in my car. Per volume, ethanol has less energy per gas, so each gallon of bastardized fuel doesn't get you as far as real gas does.

I'm filling everything I can TODAY !!! Sea foam ....I don't have much storage...yoda
 Quoting: blackdiamond

Seafoam is not for storing fuel it is a cleaner. Need stabil for storing. I am a Marine tech so take this info serious. We use seafoam in summerizing and stabil for winterizing.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77195896

This is correct. Injectors/carb dirty? Sea Foam. Gas in storage? Stabil. There are other products but Stabil buys you at least a coupe more years.

I've been rotating gasoline for just over 11 years. I keep 2 barrels (55gal) full most times. I tend to keep it for about a year, max. I try to average six months but doesn't always work out. When gas is cheap, I'll use out of the barrel as I fill cans. I use up the oldest barrel then refill it when the price is cheap. I never touch but one barrel at a time. Gas is good for two years. I've seen it good for 5 years without stabil. Just depends on the gas and the conditions. I've seen it dead in 3 years in small tanks. It is mostly about temperature. Both stable temperature and cooler is better too. Right now, I've full up. I've got a 6 month old barrel, a brand new barrel that was almost a year old that I just filled, and then I filled my 4, 5gal jugs. I'll use out of the old barrel then dump the jugs in and refill them if its cheap. I've been doing this for 11 years.

I find that there is no degradation of untreated gasoline in a 55gal barrel after even 2 years. All my vehicles burned it fine. At the time of the test I was using a 1995 Mazda Protege (basically, a Ford Focus), a 1996 Ford Explorer and a 1992 Toyota Tercel. I let one barrel get old for a test. No problem.

With this rumor, I would recommend topping off your vehicle(s) every couple days and buy a couple 5gal jugs, and fill them. When the car gets low, dump the jug in to top off the car, then fill the jug. Do the other jug the next top off. It will give you at least double the gas capacity of a small car and 50% more in a larger vehicle.

My setup is the two racing fuel barrels that say "WASTE OIL" on them. I pour a little used on on the top of them to make them look nasty. But, inside is clear, clean gasoline! I set them up on 2x4s to keep them off the concrete. I also have "Sorb-all" around them. Keeps the mosture away and looks like where I dump waste oil. I figure If I need to I can roll one of those into my covered trailer and make it a long, long way.

I used a hand pump. It cost a bunch. Don't buy a cheap one, they suck. The is a stroke pump and not a rotary. It was like $200. Makes it nice. Pumps about a pint per stroke.

Good luck. ...and be careful. Gasoline is EXTREMELY flammable. Its not that it burns that crazy, its that it lights REALLY REALLY EASY!

there is so much oil in reserves they don't know where to put it all

and like with china, their consumption dropped by over 12 million barrels a month.

Finding gas should not be a problem unless of course everybody is dead

then it wont really mattter
