The numbers indicate about 7 - 8 million are dead. Because thats the number that completely vanished without a trace.

They dont have to confiscate the phones. There are 5 main telecoms in China (all which are state run).

All they have to do is shutdown the towers and terminate cellular signals and data.

Confiscating phones is too much effort and too time consuming. Flipping a switch and shutting everything off is faster and easier.

Someone mentioned a video of Chinese govt shoveling piles of cell phones.

They'd snatch the phones wherever they could, just to be certain no clever person there figured out how to hack the phone and use it.

I'm certain most of it was them shutting lines down.

This is actually amazing great proof that they have been hiding the real number and their extreme methods to do it.
