Will COVID-19 Actually Force Governments To Be More Efficient? ...a silver-lining from COVID-19? calls into question why so much bureaucracy

Well, at least there’s a bit of good news from COVID-19. In a few cases, it at least seems to be making government more efficient, and calls into question why so much bureaucracy existed to begin with.

We think there’s a LOT more to come in terms of streamlining government.

Millions of people will lose their jobs, and that includes government workers too. With tax revenue drying up, federal, state, and local governments will have to lay off employees too… and by consequence, they’ll be forced to streamline their operations and ease bureaucracy.

Once the virus finally starts to die down, they’re also going to have to eliminate red tape to help businesses jumpstart back to life.

We’re seeing some very early signs of that:

Amid pandemic Massachusetts eases out-of-state medical licensing
With cases of Covid-19 rising in Massachusetts, Governor Charlie Baker took emergency action.

In order to ensure enough medical professionals are available to deal with the health crisis, the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing is easing requirements.

Baker said the board, “put in place an emergency procedure that will make it possible for licensed, out-of-state medical professionals and nurses to become licensed here in Massachusetts in one day.”

Currently, according to the state’s website, it takes an average of 16 weeks for licensed out of state medical workers to apply for and receive their Massachusetts medical license.

Apparently the unnecessary paperwork and fees aren’t there to make people safer…

I've been saying for some time Trump is delegating, and good for him.
Our state, local, county politicians are so fkin corrupt, used to doing nothing except partying, decorating offices, stealing money, sitting around, making stupid laws we hate.
Now, they have to work, and it is serious shit.

Yes it will.

About 95% of my agency's staff is working from home. We don't need offices.

A tee shirt and clean underwear are all that is needed to work from your den. [Okay you need encrypted DNS, NPV, Skype for Business, Teams, Outlook and a decent Internet connection, but you get the idea].

I even sent a pic of me in tee shirt and underwear to my team when all of them except the guy with the possibly COVID-19 infected wife, went into the office yesterday and today--idiots all.

The states like California will bleed the U.S.A. dry. They are housing the homeless in hotels and spending money like drunken sailors on shore leave. They know how to use FEMA to get big $ . Government is full of people who have no concept of a bottom line or cost containment. What we are doing is sustainable for how long ? The spending package set to be approved Monday is THREE TIMES the 2008 TOTAL spending and it is just a down payment. The 2008 spending could have written a check for $60,000. for each household in U.S.A. !!!!! We are going broke and fast !!!!!!

Well, that's a nice little fantasy you got there.

Governments are downstream of demographics. And the ascendant demographics aren't interested in efficiency.

They need one hell of a wake up call and they don’t get it. My son in law is going to work for two weeks and then be on paid leave for 2 months. His county position is only going to work 4 people so they have to all rotate two week stents. All are being paid full salary to work 2 weeks out of 20.

Private businesses laying off like crazy, county only cutback is no overtime.

Supposedly there is something like 5000 employees. Makes you sick.

one silver lining I'm hoping for here in the UK

is that the bureaucrats who take money for nothing in the NHS reveal their terminal uselessness

and comedy cough their way out of a job

honestly , they are jumping ship and self isolating after clearing their throats and 'feeling fushed '

they won't be missed

silver linings ahoy , just have to get though to the other side

Yeah Trump cut the CDC budget and pandemic response team, and it saved money with no negative repercussions.
