Whiskey*Tango User ID: 73132247 United States 03/21/2020 07:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My anxiety is sky high. I have 2 younger teenagers and a 10 year old. My husbands job puts us at high risk for getting it. I’m a mom who does not get flu shots for the kids, I truly believe kids need to get sick for their immune system, but this is a different animal in my mind because of the unknown. I’m not saying I get my kids sick, I’m saying if they don’t get it while they are young, what happens when they are elderly? This is anxiety I don’t know what to do with, so I’m dealing the best I can. Husband thinks I’m overreacting, anyone with anxiety issues knows it’s neither over or under reacting. It’s reacting that is beyond my control and I’m doing my best to deal/alleviate it. I kind of just want my husband to bring the shit home before hospitals are overwhelmed, because unless the heat kills it, he’s going to bring it home. |

Kids are doing lessons online in the morning..then in the afternoon, daughter and son in law are doing "life" lessons. About medicine, first aid, gardening, even building things with leggos..learning architecture. My husband is #2 on transplant list for a new liver. He had non alcoholic based Hepatitis C ( which has since been cured withe the drug Harvoni) We are waiting on a call from Birmingham Alabama and have to be ready at a moments notice when we receive the call to go. (About 4 hours away from my area in NW Fla) I worry about transporting him and how his immune system will be so damaged after the surgery. I know its hard to try to keep it together mentally...just be strong and trust everything will work out ok. Worrying constantly doesn't help anything but damage your health. Hug those babies and enjoy every minute you have with them. |

The good news is this is not affecting many children gravely. And the death rate so far in our country is much lower than the international average. We are also close perhaps to coming up with some successful treatments. You have to keep hope. For your children and yourself and your spouse. Not a bad idea to pray, too, imo. |

But you, you dont give a flying eff. Take them to the germ capital of the world!!! Nice Helps build their immune system ;) To each their own i guess. But how could you put them in that position? I get the attitude of "i just dont care if i get this disease. But thats usually single people. But as parent to put them in a potentially dangerous situation? Couple points here. It blew up while we were there, we didnt just say...hey covid is here, lets go to disney.I mean I knew about it, but I wasnt worried. It was planned way ahead of time. Second, children are kicking the shit out of this thing, its the older people that are in danger. I got to ask. What was your extended families reaction? Did they think you were crazy for putting your familys health at risk? |

Source: Parent of 6. And kids are doing great with this virus, statistically speaking. If your greatest worry is food supply, there is still food in even the most rampaged stores. You just have to teach them food flexibility. You can do this by making the new foods look really fun, and by your own enthusiasm. Tell them every dish was one of your absolute favorites growing up. Make lots of yummy noises. Their developing brains will permanently associate laughing/happiness even with the less appetizing foods. This was demostrated with the kids who survived the great depression...they continued to eat dishes like cow tongue and chicken livers until death, because they came to love them as kids as an inprinted memory of family bonding. |

Just so you know, OP, homeschooling a child in 1st-5th grade only takes about an hour a day TOTAL to cover the core stuff even more fully than in public school. Quality curriculum is not expensive, and it does all the pre-thinking and work for you. The hardest part is choosing from the huge selection available. When I pulled my daughter from "regular school" in 4th grade, I was concerned because we were covering twice the material she was doing in regular school, but we were getting done in around an hour or a little more (depending on how many subjects we doubled up on that day, usually math and English at least, to try to make up for what they had not been covering in school in my opinion). I was concerned that I was doing it wrong! I researched on various homeschool blogs, and they all laughed. Yep, definitely doing it right, that's really all it takes. We're now finishing 8th grade, so it takes a few hours with all the science experiments, algebra, French, two courses of history, language, reading/literature, ACT prep, etc. I have worked at home for many years, and there is no problem getting my work and her school work done. Sometimes we have to be flexible and work around my client needs or other fun things we want to do, but it's really quite wonderful and freeing. Stop worrying. Seriously. You will figure it out. Ignore these selfish asses that do not know the fear you have out of the depth of love you have for your family. It is going to be OK. Stop imagining the worst. You will make it fine. Relax do the best you can and that is the best you can do. Worry will not help when you have done all you can, take pride it that and relax, go play with the kids, bubble bath time. |

The schools shut down this past Tuesday, kids sent home with work packets and online instruction info. Ltitle kids given a picture book packet explaining coronavirus. Kids sense fear, they sense the uncertainty. I keep telling them this is new for us. Have essential oils oregano they hate, but theives, lavender. Vitamin c drinks. Lots ofor mandrin oranges. Outback at least an hour a day. Youtube zoo tours, baby animass bring joy to watch. Kids teachers are reading books and sharing videos through school fb. Nice for kids to see favorite school staff online. Not giving too much fearfull info to k8ds. Reassure we are healthy, we are safe, we will still have fun even though different. Take time away and fReak out in bathroom while they watch movie. Keep brave for the kids. |
