So can someone explain how completely sealing the borders 2 months ago would be more expensive than what we have now?
They said it was too impractical to seal the borders completely. It would crash the economy.

But would it really be worse that what we have now?

It was probably already too late; people travelled freely in China. You would have to cut it off before a single case. Maybe it would have delayed the curve a bit and given more time.
