While this may not be the ideal solution...I know it works.

Friends of mine owned a home with a mortgage. For whatever reason they stopped paying it. The bank never came after them beyond a few threatening type phone calls, which they ignored.

After a few months of non-payment, the bank stopped bothering them and they ended up living in that home for over a year without paying any mortgage payments.

The bank,finally offered them $3,000 cash if they would move. Apparently, the bank reasoned that the cash payment was cheaper and faster than dragging the matter out in court.

I am not saying it will always work and a lot depends on the location and desirability of the home. It is a long process to remove someone from the home. If you see no recourse, think about stop paying your mortgage to conserve cash.

Your credit will take a hit anyway.
