If the Bushter and congress would spend 1/1000 of the dough they're blowing on murdering people in Iraq on developing new ways of powering our civilization instead, we probably wouldn't have to go all over the world murdering people so we can steal their shit. May 15, 2007 New process generates hydrogen from aluminum alloy to run engines, fuel cells WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Researchers demonstrate method for producing hydrogen A Purdue University engineer has developed a method that uses an aluminum alloy to extract hydrogen from water for running fuel cells or internal combustion engines, and the technique could be used to replace gasoline. The method makes it unnecessary to store or transport hydrogen - two major challenges in creating a hydrogen economy, said Jerry Woodall, a distinguished professor of electrical and computer engineering at Purdue who invented the process. "The hydrogen is generated on demand, so you only produce as much as you need when you need it," said Woodall, who presented research findings detailing how the system works during a recent energy symposium at Purdue. The technology could be used to drive small internal combustion engines in various applications, including portable emergency generators, lawn mowers and chain saws. The process could, in theory, also be used to replace gasoline for cars and trucks, he said. If we soaked up every drop of oil out of Alaska it would last the U.S. about 6 mos to a year a bit of research is in order there... there are two known reserves that would run the entire U.S. for perhaps a 100 yrs. there is more oil in the 'off limits' areas in alaska/arctic circle than can be imaginable. not to mention offshore areas that are 'offlimits'. Many known reserves there as well. the world is no where near running out of oil. i think the saudi quote may be true...but not due to running out of oil...they are not even close to running out of oil in the next 40 yrs...two generations. the modern age will end. get ready for it. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 292882hydrogen is a great alternative...but still expensive to produce. the aluminum method, mixed with gallium, is great...but it takes alot of energy to reduce the aluminum back to metal to be reused . (it oxidizes to aluminum hydroxide in the process) |
