No, more worried. The wife and I are (thankfully) both working from home, so don't have time to monitor my 13yo son. He hated school, so this is like summer for him. We can't force him to go outside and play, or keep up his studies while we work.

Just let him do what he wants??? "Ma, where are my damn hotpockets??!! These vide games arent going to play themself!"

Yep... we are told anything up to 18 months for reopening schools here in the UK...

I don't mind... I'll teach him well, the best I can...

We are happy... we've accepted that this is the way it is for now...

I'm enjoying spending more time with him and actually living up to my role as his sole guardian/mother at all he does...

where did you hear 18 months?

Yep, my wife is still working so I'm home with the two kiddos, 6 and 8. Exhausting is an understatement and my brain is turning to oatmeal. I forget what day it is and I haven't shaved in two weeks. I've resorted to paper plates so in don't have to do dishes twice a day.

Please let's get back to normal life

It’s an exhausting job and those of us that are good at it and enjoy it certainly don’t educate for the bills. It’s not just literacy, math, science, PE, writing, reading, music, art.... it’s social skills and making sure they turn out to be kind and compassionate humans.

Hopefully it’s taught some parents to respect teachers more.

We’re not just babysitters. And a lot of us are out of a job right now.

Peace.

Now you know why I said back in 2001 "Everything into physical silver. 1 ounce rounds, .999 fine, 1 Troy oz.". To those who listened to this "wack-job", our day is almost here. To those who didn't, sucks to be you. Now take that 1959 and 2X it for the other 21 trillion they're not telliing us about, and now silver is really worth $4000. Not including "premium" on top of that...

I know we are! Never realized just how exhausting this all was? Kids used to spend alot of their energy at school. Now zero breaks for us parents!!

I don't get this mindset at all but then again we homeschool. It's a great privilege and blessing to have them around all the time especially knowing that is not a forever thing.

My kids are always home with me and have been doing online school. You just need to keep them on a schedule and stick to it. Recess/Gym is a daily must, go on bike rides or if you have exercise equipment have them use that. My kids go back to school on Monday.

If you don't want to be 100% responsible physically and financially for your kids, don't have them. Kid's aren't a fad or a hobby. You shouldn't have them just so you can carry on your family name. They are yours and your responsibility.

I taught preschool for ten plus years. I had 27 children at one time. I was great at my job. I had control or at least enough because 8 had a few problem children. It always amazed me at how parents would cry over two or three children at one time. But I guess now some of you see how teachers feel every school year all day and no escape.

Do not let any of these stupid asses put you down. It is a very hard job, my heart goes out to you. Children can be very stressful when parents do not get a break. Get out in the yard with sun fresh air and a vigorous work out, dig a garden or build a tree fort or weed the flower bed, anything like that each day.hugs

Re: Parents: Are you exhausted/stressed now thst the kids are not going back to school?
I'm teaching my daughters chess and music theory.

My 9 year old knows all her scales, major, minor, harmonic and melodic minor, + blues scale and now she is learning all the jazz chords along with what chord tensions are available for each chord type. She sings and plays piano and could probably pass a college music theory level 2 or 3 course. I started teaching her music when she was 3, no pressure, only when she wants to, so it has been on and off. She started reading at 18 months.

My 8 year old has been doing reading, math, chess and on nice days we all play soccer as a family for exercise. She plays on a travel soccer team and often plays up with the 9 year old team.

I wouldn't be surprised if my kids are learning quite a bit more now than regular school. I had considered home schooling but they like seeing their friends.

Wife is a teacher, she handles the regular school curriculum stuff.

Also I built a greenhouse and we have been gardening to grow veggies.

Must be a right pain in the ass having to cook and associate with your kids, especially now the Markxists have fucked with their heads.

Perhaps it gives you time to reverse the damage if you can be fucked..

Re: Parents: Are you exhausted/stressed now thst the kids are not going back to school?
I'm finding the homeschooling part a lot easier than I thought it would be with my daughters. They are middle schoolers are loving that they are done with their school day in about 3 hours vs. all day like before. And the teacher just sent notice that from now on the work load will be easier and Fridays will be a day to complete anything not done during the week (no new work that day) so it sounds like it will get even eaiser for them. But, my 4th grader is a lot more work than they are. He's in a cast right now on his writing hand so anything that requires pencil and paper (figuring out math problems, taking notes, etc) I'm having to sit with him. And he is not used to having his school work online like my girls are so I have to help him through navigating that.
I am not finding the homeschooling exhausting and the kids have been fine being home so far (they can still get out and ride bikes, take the dogs for walks, fish, shoot baskets in our driveway, etc) but being tied to my sons desk all week has pushed all of my own work (I have a graphic design business) to early morning/late night/weekends. So that is an adjustment.

There is absolutely no chance schools will be back in session this school year. They are saying we don't even hit the really bad stuff, the peak, until the 3rd or 4th week of April. Even if May was a time of things starting to get back to normal (it won't be) and we could send them back by the end of that month why bother? You are so close to the end of school at that point might as well just finish out the school year at home.
