We're homesteaders and the kids are always here. We get along great and work well together. Been making maple syrup for the past few weeks, hard work but fun and profitable.

Maybe instead of treating them like pets, you give them things to be responsible for, chores and tasks so they can develop their confidence and sense of responsibility?

Rather than being exhausted by them, they actually make your load lighter.

My kids are always home with me and have been doing online school. You just need to keep them on a schedule and stick to it. Recess/Gym is a daily must, go on bike rides or if you have exercise equipment have them use that. My kids go back to school on Monday.

What schools are open??

Online schools. It's probably too late to register since they start the last quarter or are in the last quarter.

Exercise is important too, yes... especially for growing children...

My child does have access to gym equipment... also has a child's sized wrestling ring, boxing room etc to release pent up tensions/express himself...

That is good... I do believe that exercise is important for children and adults...

Make sure they use it! I don't let mine use any electronics or tv until everything that needs to be done for the day is complete and that's not until after 4:30 / 5pm. I even make mine take showers with the threat of no electronics otherwise they will never voluntarily bathe.

Been off on disability for over a year.
Kinda the same for me and the two kids.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78053027

Kids are on disability too?
 Quoting: Oxi moran

In my experience, if the parent is on disability, the under 18 year old children would get something based on your record each for support. So you get your disability and then an extra $$ each child. It can add up if you have lots of kids.

For example, the average SSDI check is around $1200 a month, not all get that but that's what they say is the average. So 1200 plus 2 kids at 400 each will give you a net disability check of 2000 a month income plus medicare for you and medicaid for the kids. I don't know if SSI pays for your kids if you are disabled. But SSDI does give them something if they are under 18 or 18 and still in high school. They graduate, check ends.

Re: Parents: Are you exhausted/stressed now thst the kids are not going back to school?
I'm a certified teacher, but I decided to homeschool my 3 girls after many years of teaching. I LOVE teaching, but I hear you. There are days I want the school bus to come pick them all up! I would suggest getting your son on schedule like:
9:00 get up, eat, breakfast, teeth, make bed, etc. and 1 morning chore like clean a bathroom, load of laundry....
10:00 Math
11:00 Science/History
12:00 lunch/outdoor time
1:00 reading/ writing
2:00 art/music/language
3:00 snack/chore
When everything is complete, THEN he can do videogames, just like school! He could also get busy and get his work done and get to his games quicker.

I've also separated my girls work into things they can do by themselves and work we do together. I would send him to his room so you could get some quiet time during the time he is doing his independent work. Good luck!

Just in case.......
Try to prep in case YOU get sick and still need to care for the children. Make some meals ahead and freeze it, have a big jug of water near your bed or resting area, tissues, wash bowl and needed meds. You could wake up unable to move, sick with fever and so on. Teach them when to call 911.
Teach the kids how to heat and get their own meals if needed, do a load of wash, load the dishwasher and care for you and each other, feed the pet, if you get sick.

Unable to deal with your children being home?
Maybe you should have not become a parent then.
Maybe you just wanted them for status or you thought is would be fun, good idea.
All the wrong reasons. Now you know what being a parent REALLY is. Can't deal, to late.
The schools are no longer your baby sitters for a time.

Suck it up. Be the adult and deal....

Re: Parents: Are you exhausted/stressed now thst the kids are not going back to school?
I taught preschool for ten plus years. I had 27 children at one time. I was great at my job. I had control or at least enough because 8 had a few problem children. It always amazed me at how parents would cry over two or three children at one time. But I guess now some of you see how teachers feel every school year all day and no escape.

Like how someone forced you to have kids? If you wanted a chihuahua that can’t even be sent outside to play or learn a few chores maybe your local pound had some options

WOW. I remember a time when parents actually enjoyed having their children at home and hated seeing them go! What in the hell has gone so terribly wrong with you parents and the family unit that would make anyone start a thread like this? How pathetic. No wonder there are so many children and teens with attachment disorders with parents like you. And do not even bother to attempt to come up with an intelligent reply, because it is obvious you don't have a high enough IQ that allows a level of emotion to care for your children, acknowledge that there is a serious issue with this thread, let alone attempt an argument with a professional Therapist. YOU are the perfect example of the self-absorbed individual who never should have bred as evidenced by your comment (copied and pasted here)- "When most oarents had their kids it was assumed that once kids reached the schhol age, that kids would spend their days in school... now its all changed!". That comment in and of itself sheds light on your ignorant mindset and is false thinking on your part. You might even want to go back to school yourself and learn how to spell the simple words. Let me guess, you are also one of those fools who believes parents should participate in "date night"? Of course you are. Dating is for WHEN you are actually dating, prior to getting married, maturing with age and having children to RAISE. I know that is a wild thought, because actually taking responsibility for yourself, your behavior/actions is a foreign concept evidenced by, once again, the illness of the mind that created this thread to begin with.

Re: Parents: Are you exhausted/stressed now thst the kids are not going back to school?
The upside of tnis virus.

Parents get to be parents again.

You get to see what schools are actually teaching your children(Bet some things are being excluded now).

No bullying on the bus or in school.

No school shootings.

Hopefully taxes will go down because education can now be done at home and you need less teachers, support staff, security guards, maintenance folks, equipment, buildings. How much does a laptop costs compared to all this stuff? One teacher can litteraly teach thousands. Not every child needs help with a lesson if taught properly.

Working parents have a greater respect for stay at home parents because its really hard at times. Its sometimes much easier to send your child off to school than to deal with them.

No sharing illnesses in class.

The downside

No sports

No playdates or socialization other than siblings.

No art , music or free lunch

Re: Parents: Are you exhausted/stressed now thst the kids are not going back to school?
So you mean you actually have to be a parent and not use schools as daycare. you actually have to raise your kids rather than having someone else do it for you.

All I've seen is people bitching about their kids being home. What a worthless so-called parent you are. Children are a gift from God not a burden. yet you treat them like there's some commodity that you have to actually talk to them, take care of them, and interact with them. Not just shove them off on school or a daycare.

I'm so glad everything's locked down right now. Because you worthless people have to deal with your families. Whore wives and single moms can't be out banging dudes at work anymore, and wives are locked in with their husbands and can't call their side dude. How funny is that. You get exactly what you deserve. I hope your kids who you've paid no attention to get on your nerves and drive you absolutely mad.

I hope you have to sit there and look at your husband in disgust, the father of your children, the man who you should respect and love, but instead you're pissed off that you can't go out and do whatever you want to do. Your feminism has failed you. You actually have to be a mom and a wife. Whether you like it or not. It's forced upon you. And you want to get out and bitching about it and complain. You're a piece of shit mom and I hope your children when they are grown up don't ever see this post to know that their mother didn't want them around. that she complained about having them around. I'd never speak to you again. The one I feel sorry for is the children who have parents who don't want them around.

Shut your mouth you stupid feminist Cunt

Some people are sadistic trolls, roaming the web looking for anyone under stress to kick when down. This is a hard time for parents, shame on you for insulting and kicking the downtrodden.
How dare you........ insult these exhausted stressed out parents by saying it is so easy for me, there must be something wrong with you. Not all situations are the same. Some people are content being a full time cook and maid, a slave to constant demanding children. It is harder for some others to make that adjustment.

I am so sorry you have to put up with these asses. It should be a time to support each other, not tear each other down, they are already stressed and need a little encouragement and support, compassion.

It is a very hard job.

Yep, my wife is still working so I'm home with the two kiddos, 6 and 8. Exhausting is an understatement and my brain is turning to oatmeal. I forget what day it is and I haven't shaved in two weeks. I've resorted to paper plates so in don't have to do dishes twice a day.

Please let's get back to normal life

I think they're saying their priorities are scattered to the wind if quality time with your kids is stressful. I'm healthy cultures kids are seen as your best friend and follow you all day learning to be an adult. Cooking, cleaning and sharing the workload with you. Bonding and laughing together along the way.

People here would rather stare at their phones, watch Netflix or have an affair. How is life worth living?

I think it's good parents are now compelled to spend more time with their children. It's a great opportunity for family time. Children also get to have some unstructured time, perhaps for the first time in their life.

Me? I'm glad I get to chill by myself, I'd hate to be cooped up with others right now.

I wonder if the forced vaccinations of kids will stop if they aren't attending school anymore. Bet you the autism rate goes down.
The teachers unions must be having a canary. One teachers videotaped lesson can teach thousands. Only need a few to answer questions. Not every child asks questions. No need for teachers aides. Parents are the new teachers aides. Parenting will become valuable again.
I think we've entered a whole new way of life. Its a good thing.

The quality time with the children is not the problem. It is the constant cooking, doing dishes, cleaning up messes, laundry, the noise, the whining fussy children because they want to go out, do this do that, play with friends and you have to say no. Trying to get them to do school work you hardly understand. It is a very hard adjustment, very stressful at times. No parent can say they do not get stressed at times and just need to relax in peace and quiet for a bit.

If these parents are saying they are such a good parents their kids never whine, never fight, never have temper tantrums, never cry, demand attention and get fussy they are lying.
