Incoming Comet ATLAS and the potential of a CME that could knock us back into the dark ages...COVID cover?
Atlas, a massive comet five times the size of Jupiter and about half the size of the Sun, will appear brighter than Venus from Earth by the end of April.

The exact size of the rocky icy core of the strange comet isn't known but is likely only a few miles across - but it has a much larger atmosphere.

It's currently close to Mars' orbit but is increasing in speed as it makes its way towards the Sun and will make its closest approach to Earth in April.

When it gets towards the inner solar system it will become one of the brightest objects in the night sky and potentially the 'comet of a generation'.

Since it was first discovered in December the gaseous envelope surrounding the comet has ballooned in diameter to a staggering 447,387 miles.

In contrast the Sun has a diameter of 865,370 miles, Jupiter's diameter is 86,881 miles and the Earth is just 7,917 miles.

It poses no danger to Earth as even at its closest point it will be more than 72 million miles away from our planet but will be very bright.

Atlas has a tail about the same size as its atmosphere, according to Michael Jager from Austria - who captured images of the object.

Did a comet hit cause an explosion on the sun?

By Nancy Atkinson, Universe Today

This amazing video from the SOHO mission (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) shows a sun-diving comet hitting the solar surface on October 1, 2011 and unexpectedly a huge explosion occurs shortly after. Are the two events related? Probably not, but solar scientists don’t know for sure. The region where the CME originated was on the opposite side of the Sun from the comet hit, so that is very great distance. Scientists say there is no known mechanism for comets to trigger a CME.

FEMA prepares for a CME:

ccording to unpublished FEMA documents obtained by Government Attic, a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) database and non-profit organization, the Department of Homeland Security agency once mapped out a disaster plan for the occurrence of another geomagnetic “super storm” like the one the occurred in 1859.

Back then, the sun flung a giant plume of magnetized plasma out into space. The coronal mass ejection (CME), the sibling of a massive solar flare, traveled the 93 million miles between the Sun and Earth in only 17.6 hours. Today, it’s known as the Carrington Event and is remembered by the largest geomagnetic storm in the history of recorded space weather.

No other storm has matched it in speed or magnitude. When the shock wave of accelerated particles arrived on September 1, 1859, the disturbances to Earth’s magnetosphere were so great that telegraph communications across Europe and North America went on the fritz. Sparks leaped from the telegraph infrastructure, and machinery was so inundated with electric currents that operators were able to transmit messages while disconnected from battery power. Compasses even wiggled, and brilliant auroras were reportedly seen as far south as the Caribbean.

But that doesn’t mean the ill-equipped government isn’t preparing for the inevitability, in fact, they are. Despite our superior ability to predict these events, the stakes are exponentially higher in a modern, hyper-connected world. FEMA predicts that a geomagnetic storm of this intensity would be “a catastrophe in slow motion.” Space weather events happen all the time, and many are harmless. For example, an event causing radio blackouts, solar radiation storms, and geomagnetic storms would be abnormal, yet the ripple effects on the power grid and communications would severely limit FEMA’s ability to respond to a nationwide crisis.

Could Atlas cause a CME on the sun? Is this what the globe is preparing for, a global blackout?

And remember, the Carrington event took place back when the magnetosphere was at full or nearly full strength (in fact research has shown that current magnetic pole excursion went from random walk to bee-lining across to Russia at same time as this event).

Right now magnetosphere is significantly weakened, a CME of the magnitude of the Carrington event will be a back to dark ages for us.

Even a much smaller flare will likely knock out satellites, power grids etc.

So yes, I definitely think something like this is the reason behind the release of this virus.

Don't forget the comet tail also contains debris, and if it breaks up there could be more debris. Add to that we are entering a debris field from the tail of another comet whose name I forget (I want to say something like Theresa??)

Note too, the virus has been released, its not a "we will release this if something happens" theory, to me this also indicates they are sure something will happen.

Or they would not have risked this kind of economic devastation.

I don't think you quite understand Comets my friend. The thing is NOT five times the size of Jupiter. The gas cloud it ejects from itself as it warms, and the cloud of dust it drags along, is.

Also, the comet broke up and so.. yeah.

Lastly.. 5 times the size of Jupiter is nothing.

Comet Holmes (official designation: 17P/Holmes) is a periodic comet in the Solar System

Although normally a very faint object, Holmes became notable during its October 2007 return when it temporarily brightened by a factor of about half a million, in what was the largest known outburst by a comet, and became visible to the naked eye. It also briefly became the largest object in the Solar System, as its coma (the thin dissipating dust ball around the comet) expanded to a diameter greater than that of the Sun.
