It may seem like a transponder 9 joke, but HF radio is a legitimate form of communication and one we need to participate in...

Who has their comms up?

I wanted to see something like this happen, a decade ago, haha. Like a BBS over HAM, though. I'm pretty sure the network protocols are out there, already.

I've thought about this, hospitals in my area are asking for baby monitors as ways to communicate because they are out of radios. Seems like a good time for local HAM operators to step in and work on comms for the hospitals.

I'm in. Will not leave my call sign as it is easy to find an address using FCC tools.

But I would love to talk to some fellow operators.

Ham radio would work however, Every hospital can afford FRS or GMRS radios.
Here are 10 FRS radios with earphones for $150

[link to www.amazon.com (secure)]

Ham radio would be overkill in this situation and how would you broadcast; and to whom. Has to be another licensed ham to TX back.

GMRS would be another option. Some GMRS also cover the FRS radio band.

I"m not posting my call sign either.

HF or VHF/UHF?

Most important is your antenna. Always think about antenna first before dumping tons of $ into a radio. (Especially HF)

NO! Ham supports civil defense and military as well as specialty calls and setups - no! Not unless the military believes their shi* or sees a need that benefits them.
HAM is civil defense and military liason and too what it needs to be.
