My wife has gotten into making bread

I'm doing the same although I did manage to stock up on yeast before it became hard to find. My mom was complaining about not being able to find yeast where she lives so I told her she should make her own sourdough starter. I decided it was a good time for me to do so as well.

I just bought a lb of yeast.. well it's not arrived yet. I'll be trying my hand st this myself. I live alone.. in mostly a neighborhood of old people.

Plan on giving out loafs if it comes to it.. and for my bro and his family.

If I find it to come with ease. Been reading about making your own yeast. May or may order big ass bags of wheat berries and a grinder

IF you were a good husband you would have bought her a bread making machine ... just dump in the raw ingredients turn it on and come back later to a perfectly baked loaf of bread ... LOVE mine ...

Making bread can be therapeutic, or really frustrating. I just made some yesterday and complained the whole time over the texture. The bread turned out fine. I'm sure hers will be too. :)

That's is great. I love it when my wife makes bread. It smells so good in the house. The bread is amazing. It's called Beer Bread. She rarely makes it since it is not good for our wastelines, but she is a gem.

I do have baking powder as a substitute, but would much rather have real bread. I started the yeast culture from a home grown lemon rind, so if it works, it will be an interesting experience.

Great idea! We have a friend who makes the best sourdough bread and she gives us a loaf every so often. One of the best gifts ever.

Kudos to your wife! I have made different types of yeast breads off and on for years - from scratch, not a machine - she will get the hang of it! It can be a daunting task when just beginning, but after awhile it gets to be a lot of fun because the results are yummy! Tell her to hang in there! It will get much easier, especially after this first try!

Nothing better than a fresh loaf infused with garlic and baked in a dutch oven.

I'm having one now - with peanut butter and peach jam. Honestly it's so delicious!

You could make a sourdough starter before you run out. It just keeps producing as long as you take care of it.

My husband who can barely boil water told me he would like to bake bread!
I laid everything out for him, turned on my favorite video for super simple bread making that he could follow, and he successfully made a delicious loaf of bread! Wow!

Wow! That is really nice. My husband has never shown any interest in cooking, but maybe one day...

So many men cook in Louisiana where we live, but I'm actually glad my husband never got into to it. My waistline could not handle it!

Made some sourdough bread yesterday, about to put another loaf in the oven.

Using the “Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day” recipe, store dough in fridge, delicious.

Just water, yeast, flour and salt..

Letting it sit and develop adds a nice rich flavor.

I'll look into that. Thanks for the idea.. I'm sure I'll look like op'ies wife at first, but uglier.. and wet dough dripping off my cat.
