Like the doctor says, treatments for typical pneumonia with a ventilator are not wholly effective, so it is not pneumonia, and so they don't know what it is.

In a biological attack dealing with it will be many tried methods that will fail, from containment to treatment to even vaccination all with deadly consequences because they think they know what they are dealing with when they don't.

The difference is its nothing they have never dealt with before. Nothing.

Well, I'm familiar and would never be intubated. Intubation CAUSES pneumonia and can damage the airways and lungs. It's not a good option and it's torture.
