Are there cellphones available that can't be tracked? | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 75506446 United Kingdom 04/07/2020 12:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | No. All cell phones can be tracked. Put into requirements in like 2002. All you can do is not carry it, really. Quoting: Fluffy Pancakes Also, it doesn't appear to matter if you turn location off or not. It's just your personal tracking device. If you wrap it in aluminum foil, it cannot be tracked. Use extra heavy duty Reynolds wrap and make certain it is completely crimped all around. Or a small Faraday Cage. |
Everwayne (OP) User ID: 77259582 United States 04/07/2020 12:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just buy a cheap disposable for calling 911 and keep it in the car turned off. You really should have one with you in a car at night, that is one of the great things about it. No more standing on the side of a dark road hoping some kind stranger spots you. You call AAA or 911. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16762662 I don't have a smart phone, I have a 3G trac phoon flip. If they force 5G on all phones, at that point I won't have one. So when you say you won't have one if they force 5g, if your away from home, how will you make a call or receive an important call from your employer or family? You'd have to go old school. We didn't have these until 20 years ago. How did we live? True. But, I'm curious about other alternatives right now. When it's all said and done though, your suggestion may be the only way to really not be tracked. |

Just bought my wife a 2020 VW and it’s fully GPS’d. Of course, they “sell” that as a very cool feature, but in reality that information is being funneled to TPTB. . A plain gps is a "receiver". it does NOT transmit. If you've got a tesla that receives software up dates "over the air"( wifi/cell data is a two -way communication; That's different.) Your cell phone does constantly "ping" towers in the area.If it worries you leave it at home."But,but I want to make and receive calls"..Then it must not worry you that much. Touche. Looks like we have to draw the line somewhere. Just leave the phone at home turned off with battery removed. Keep the phone in the refrigerator. If your away and need to make a call, just use a pubic phone. I haven't seen a pay phone in a looong time. Do they still have them where you are? |

DoomsdayGuy User ID: 77784507 United States 04/07/2020 01:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So with all the threads about tracking us with our smartphones it has got me thinking about ditching my smartphone and getting a little flip phone with no internet capabilities. So I'm wondering if any of you have done this and are there even cell phones available now that can't be tracked? By the way I do know they have been tracking us with our cellphones for some time now. Quoting: Everwayne No, if your phone is on then it will ping towers, if they have pings from 3 towers your phone can be pinpointed. Wrap it up in foil to block it from communicating. But then you won't be getting calls either. Come on and take a free ride. |
beenthruthat User ID: 77665003 United States 04/07/2020 01:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The nature of cellular technology makes it impossible to have a cell phone and not be tracked. As you move about your phone handshakes with towers along the route you travel. For you to be able to receive calls the cellular network must know which towers are closest to you at any one time. Quoting: Pete the Puma If it was ship to shore phones like those old car phones . it would be a different story . They basically worked like a CB radio and your specific location was not registered as you moved about. A COUPLE YEARS ago I threw My cell phone into the woods , behind the house ... before the cops got there ... the first question the cop asked Me is ( where's Your phone ) I told Him the story ... He went into the woods and brought Me the phone ... all You need to know ..? |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 78033058 United States 04/07/2020 01:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The best way to stop the most common tracking methods while still having a phone is to get one that can have the battery removed and a faraday bag. Keep the phone and battery separated, in the bag. If you need to use it, know that your location will immediately be logged. Otherwise, no way to track it. Really you don't even need the faraday bag, just keep the phone turn off with the battery removed until you need it. |

Quoting: Dataskrekk Fun experiments: Leave phone at home and see if you get tracked regardless (here we will receive message on phone if doing wrong). Then we know they likely use face recognition. Leave phone at home and have a face mask on and see if you get tracked regardless. That would be interesting;) At some point, leaving home without trackable phone will get you in prison.
