Breaking news: French Doctor Suggests Smoking May Protect Against COVID-19 Infection

The doctor referenced researchers at the Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, who concluded that only 1.4% of 140 COVID-19 patients were smokers.

In an February interview with the French news channel LCI, Dr. Sandrine Belouzard, a researcher at the National Center of Scientific Research in France, also offered evidence favoring smokers.

She explained that a Chinese study on 1,000 COVID-19 patients revealed that more than 85% of them have never smoked, while only 12-13% have smoked before or are active smokers.

You don't have to smoke. It's not the smoke that protects you. It's the nicotine, and you can use other nicotine products. Smoking's just filthy.

Snus has a higher nicotine content so I use that and Copenhagen since quitting smoking.

i disagree. it is the smoke and /or tar. these toughen the lungs and your immune system so you are better at fighting the virus off. it also means this virus has a harder time attatching to the lungs. nicotene will not do that,it would go into the blood stream and not affect the lungs.


same principle applies elsewhere. take a farmers kid as opposed to a city kid that uses anti-bacterial soap. which is more immune to germs? the farm kid. cause he plays in dirt. his system is better equipped to fight than the 1 who relies on medicated soap.

another factor is the smoker can is used to less O2 than a non-smoker. for the same reason,the smoke.this is not figured by any Dr that i know of when looking at how to help smokers quit. by stopping smoking,they actually overdose their systems on O2. not to the point of doing harm but they do get loopy,lighht headed,and have other side effects.
