The Workers vs Welfare
You've all read the reports already. How those without jobs can now be paid more than if they actually went to work. This incentives people to NOT work. Can you really blame them? Why work for $10/hr when you can sit at home & make $12/hr? So an all out closure of the entire planet didn't quite crash the global economy. It came close, damn close, but just not quite enough. That was round one...

Round two is influencing the global populace to accept a (socialized) universal payment and it's f*cking working. Check this... ALL, not one or two, ALL OF OUR EMPLOYEES SAVE FOR ME AND ONE OTHER have called out of work, been calling out of work, because they can file unemployment or furloughed hours & make even more money. This is unsustainable. I alone can't perform every job function here (no matter how good I think I am) & keep the company afloat. I give this a week, maybe two tops & then I'm calling it.

Not really ranting or upset. We knew this was coming one day. This was more of just an observational & informational post than anything. Good luck out there folks. It ain't looking good.

Re: The Workers vs Welfare
My big sis retired early a year ago so that she could spend more time with her husband who retired with a 30 year pension, plus they had pretty hefty savings. Well, anyway, she talked to her old boss/company owner (manufacturing - steel - making racks). He was closing down for good. He said the workers, who were not making much, were happy about it because they were going to make more on unemployment than when working: Trump bucks + unemployment + the additional $600 per week. They could just sit home and relax and catch up on things.

OK, that's fine, but what about 6 or 8 months down the road when you cannot find another job? Some of the newly laid-off previously low-skilled, low-pay workers are pretty happy right now, but this just isn't going to end well I fear.

Oh and just to add some more fire to the flames...

We were one of the first companies to file for the PPP. As you all know, the funds dried up, small businesses that filed were pushed back while larger corporations/banks/colleges received the bulk of the package. We have yet to receive a dime but considering none of our employees even WANT to work, I'm considering rescinding the application altogether.

I worked for over 30 years, physical job, not white collar. Whole spine going out. Even if I qualify for disability, I wouldn't be getting anywhere near what I was earning. Planning to get a computer learn office work and work from home, if there's ever any open again.

I'd rather be working, putting in a big garden. Hopefully if I can ever get surgery ( it's been cancelled, covid19 three times), I can get working again.

Instead of offering unemployment payments to workers who've been laid off, the government should be offering incentives to companies to keep workers on the payroll.

No, working is essential to any economy. You don't even need the minimum Economy 101 class to figure that one out. Any able-bodied, sound-minded person who choses to live off the government rather than work is probably going to be in a world of hurt somewhere down the line. That doesn't compute long-term.

Not to mention the fact that food prices are about to increase exponentially. Y'all heard Tyson is shutting down one of its major pork processing centers (and there's been a few others announce that as well). So there's going to be price increases AND a shortage in the supply chain. One domino after another...

Good luck with that. I've known office work for 30 years and work at home office jobs are highly competitive...forget it...everyone is an office worker these days, you need a skill and do your own paperwork or now, computer work...that's what your mean. Find a skill and also do your own computer work from home. So you need to learn two things.

They are going to force higher wages.

When the 2k to unemployment gets passed it will force business to pay double for the minimum job requirement to get employees.

Hope business owners are ready.

I know a few people who have filed for unemployment in a couple of states. A couple are small business owners like hair stylists who had no choice.

There have been no "Trump bucks"

No $600 for them.

Who is actually getting it?

This is absolutely true. I'm an expendable, excuse me, essential worker at a grocery store. There is absolutely zero incentive for me to go to work. You get more money to stay home, and who wants to risk getting "sick" with whatever is out there? I work for a large regional chain, and weeks before news hit the msm, they had signage posted saying they will no longer penalize you for calling off sick due to coronavirus. Gee thanks. Then they started bringing in palates of the shit they knew would sell out, water, toilet paper, peanut butter, etc. We sold more in that 2nd and 3rd week of March than ever before. So they offered employees an extra 1$ an hour during the plague, but won't see it in our checks til May. Word musta got out that that was an insult so they raised it to 2$ extra, but only during the plague aka "hazard pay." Also at this time, they started with the sneeze guards and social distancing stickers, AND THEY CLOSED DOWN OUR BUTCHER. Now all of a sudden all these meat companies are closing, what did they know ahead of time?

Sorry this turned into a rant, but I'm just trying to figure this all out like all of u.

When this first blew up, I called my mom to tell her I'm scared to go to work. She told me she had been laid off. After 32 years. By email. We didn't even process the "virus" yet and the economy collapsed.

What the fuck is going on?

Govt needs to pull the CCC and WPA out of the history section and put millions of US Citizens back to work rebuilding this country's infrastructure, which is failing most places. And planting/picking crops, taking care of livestock. This quarantine is pointless BS in all but the dense urban areas where there are high infection rates. The rest of the country needs to go back to work.

Yep.
The worst part is, the 1% will layoff the workers if they get a bail out when there is no demand. They are not going to use that money to keep workers on if demand is low.

Good question. It's obvious to me what's going on. This is the planned & almost perfectly orchestrated/executed collapse of the global economy in an attempt to bring about a one world global government/currency/religion. Now my only question is, WHY IS IT BEING ALLOWED TO HAPPEN?

It's a strange thing to witness isn't it? My oldest child, God bless the poor thing, she's about as liberal as they come. Thinks the world revolves around her & it's everyone else's responsibility to take care of her, regardless of whatever poor decisions she's made/making. And as much as I've tried, God knows I've tried, to teach the kid personal responsibility, she's just never going to get it without some sort of divine intervention. And that's how half the populace thinks as well. Damn Tide Pod generation, I'm tellin ya...

Encouraging voluntary welfare is the answer.

Not by putting a gun to our heads.

Christians will take care of the entire nation, they were the ones who started the orphanages and hospitals, but lost their way in US culture to a large extent, and hopefully will find their path again soon.

That's not exactly how unemployment works, at least here in Cali. When an employee or ex-employee files for unemployment, we, the employer receive a letter from the State letting us know that so and so is trying to get on unemployment. The employer can fight this and 9 out 10 times the employer will win (the State doesn't want to pay this)

HOWEVER...

Because the CDC has declared that we have a pandemic on our hands, employees have more leverage to receive the money from the State.

I have been going around and around (in my head) trying to figure out what rights that I, the employer has when the local county health codes state that we are considered 'essential' again, and I can send the guys to work, and 1 or more of them say, "No fucking way, man. There is still a pandemic out there and I cannot get sick!" What can I do? Can I consider this a voluntary quit or not?

Because we received PPP money, we told all the guys to get off unemployment so we can run payroll and keep them getting paid. Any employee that does not want to come back to work will have to go back on unemployment and I should be able to fight it.
