What the US president says and does often flies in the face of mainstream science.

What US President Donald Trump says and does often flies in the face of mainstream science. Coronavirus and the idea of injecting disinfectants is only the latest episode.

When a rare solar eclipse happened in 2017, astronomers and eye doctors repeatedly warned people not to stare directly at the sun without protection. Photos show Mr Trump did anyway. He later donned protective glasses.

For decades, scientists have called climate change a pressing issue, pointing to data, physics and chemistry. Mr Trump regularly called it a hoax until recently.

He claims that noise from wind turbines – which he refers to as windmills – causes cancer, which is not accurate.

And he has said that exercise will deplete the finite amount of energy a body has, while doctors tell people that exercise is critical to good health.

When Mr Trump wanted to defend his warning that Alabama was threatened by Hurricane Dorian last year, he displayed an official weather map that had been altered with a marker to extend the danger areas.

Alabama National Weather Service meteorologists were chastised by their agency chief when they issued tweets to reassure worried residents that they were not in the path of the hurricane.

Re: From Injecting disinfectant to wind turbines causing cancer - Donald Trump’s clashes with science. Saudi Arabia abolishes flogging
Saudi Arabia has abolished flogging as a punishment, the state human rights commission said Saturday, hailing a "major step forward" in the reform programme launched by the king and his powerful son.

Court-ordered floggings in Saudi Arabia -- sometimes extending to hundreds of lashes -- have long drawn condemnation from human rights groups.

But they say the headline legal reforms overseen by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman have brought no let-up in the conservative Islamic kingdom's crushing of dissent, including through the use of the death penalty.

The state human rights commission said that the latest reform, which was reported by Saudi media including the pro-government Okaz newspaper, would ensure that no more convicts were sentenced to flogging.

"This decision guarantees that convicts who would previously have been sentenced to the lash will from now on receive fines or prison terms instead," its chairman, Awad al-Awad, said.

Previously, the courts had powers to order the flogging of convicts found guilty of offences ranging from extramarital sex and breach of the peace to murder.

In future, judges will have to choose between fines and/or jail sentences, or non-custodial alternatives like community service.

- Blogger flogging -

The most high-profile instance of flogging in recent years was the case of Saudi blogger Raif Badawi who was sentenced to 10 years in prison and 1,000 lashes in 2014 on charges of "insulting" Islam.

He was awarded the European parliament's Sakharov human rights prize the following year.

The abolition of corporal punishment in Saudi Arabia comes just days after the kingdom's human rights record was again in the spotlight following news of the death from a stroke in custody of leading activist Abullah al-Hamid, 69.

Flogging is bad for crowds anyway... they all want death

Did SaudiArabia abolish public beheading? Of course not

Flogging isn't needed if you cut of the thieving hands or stupid heads

Disinfectant is any compound exerting antimicrobial activity
Antibiotics are a disinfectant.
UV light is a disinfectant.
Various solutions of metal salts are disinfectants.
Thousands of organic compounds and molecules are disinfectants.

Trump never said inject bleach - the media assumed by disinfectant he meant bleach as the media are scientifically illiterate.

Everything Trump said was 100% correct, and the media are fools.

Also injection doesn't have to mean intravenous - that is only one type of injection. Trump is vindicated again.
