Thank-you for this someone else noticed and research as well. There are currently two viable girl candidates Kim Jo-Yong and her
OLDER half sister Kim Sul-song. But with their ideologies a female will not be qualified to run, since they will not be able to pass the last name Kim on. But for argument sake lets say they are viable candidates, it will still never happen without a civil war, because if they were the only candidate this would be fine one of them would be regent or whatever. But there are
Four males still active, lets start with the least possible of the four males Kim Yong-ju going way back he is the brother to the grandfather of Kim Jong-Un that started this whole mess brother (Kim Il-sung) basically younger brother to Kim Il-Sung. He was actually going to take over for Kim Il-Sung, but lost it to Kim Jong-il, be played aminor role after, and basically fell out of the lime light so to speak. He is the least likely to rule now because of his age being 99. Although he could try but highly unlikely. Next up is Kim Han-Sol this player will be who the West wants as number 1, unless they go with another pro west individual (Possibly Kim Jung-Chul but that is still unknowing though) this is the second least likely since he would bring radical change to North Korea and the generals more than likely may not like that.
Kim Jung-Un is his Half-Uncle and his father was Kim Jong-nam who was the rightful heir before falling out of grace by his father Kim Jong-il. So this has potential, but is an extreme long shot. Next up is Kim Jong-Chul imo this will be the West's second pick other than another player that is pro West. This person is the full
OLDERbrother to Kim Jung-Un, and Half-Uncle to Han-Sol as well. He was passed over because his father Kim Jung-Il thought he was to pacifistic this is the one that likes Eric Clapton and plays in a band. I put Jung-Chul higher than Han-sol because imo he is more pro NK, because he at least still lives there, and never had anyone he cares about assassinated (Other than his Uncle by his brother, but that is another story not sure if he even cares about that). He might be seen though as pro reunification so some if not all generals might fear him in power. Now the final person, and imo who has the best chance here is one that I didn't know, and this changed everything for me, enter Kim Pyong-il half brother to Kim Jong-il he has experience in NK politics and his most dangerous weapon is he supposedly looks like his father, which jeopardized Kim Jung-il's kids so he was put out of the picture as an ambassador.
Interestingly enough he is seen as a threat by both SK and NK (I think NK just because he looked like the father and Jong-il saw that as a threat to his children, but since they are somewhat out of the picture he has the perfect chance to take the helm now). Although he is a wild card not much is known about his views, he is also somewhat old, but still at a good age being 65, This is the person I think has the best shot at succeeding for the generals preferences. As you can see there are way to many males in the picture for a female to win the slot. If you want my opinion it will be a civil war with generals picking a Kim side, with even the possibility of creating a whole new ruling family. The West will more than likely be brought in due to the weapons arsenal (Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical) also this will create a humanitarian catastrophe the likes the world has not seen in quite some time. And the possibility of creating a strong ally with Han-Sol or Jong-Chul and reunification of Korea. And undoubtedly this will of course bring in China. This civil war may even lead into WW3 who knows. But this will be a mess and make Iraq and Afghanistan look easy.
