The permanent heart or lung damage, or damage to other organs, after having covid-19? The search for and new building of machines for patients? And on and on. Typical flu causes all this? Hmmm

If stupidity causes covid-19 this nation will soon be emptied and perhaps much of the world, as well.

How does your statement fit with those who say we need herd immunity? Seems at variance.

I know. lol Most people have at best an average IQ and can't figure these things out I suppose. masks do no good unless its very expensive and HEPA grade. Even with that, it's not healthy to obstruct your own natural breathing. Your lungs are recycling any virus they have inside of them.

Again, empirical thinking. Only seeing what you see with your own eyes. It's a Southern Tradition. But doesn't allow you to see that this is a biological weapon, we are under attack, second wave expected anywhere from TODAY until July 4th.

Maybe so, but if that is true, we just doubled the yearly deaths during "Flu season" by adding this new virus in on top of what we usually get.

The facts are, this virus is very real, it's far more contagious than any influenza virus and the mortality rate is higher, much higher.

How much higher is the mortality rate? NO ONE at this time really has any idea, but consider this. Lets take the numbers as they stand now, roughly. We have about 2 million cases world wide and about 200k dead from it. (roughly as I said) So, if everyone who has it right now suddenly recovers and is fine? It's STILL 200k dead and 2 million recovered, that's a 10% mortality. ANY disease with a 10% mortality rate would be considered the worst case, massive death, millions dead etc if the spread didn't stop.

So we can likely assume that there are many more cases walking around asymptomatic, so lets say 10x as many as we know. That would make the mortality far lower, about 1%, with 20 million cases worldwide. The regular seasonal flu has a mortality rate of about 1/10th that, .1% and it regularly kills about 40,000 people per year in the US alone.

So now let's make the scenario even better for the human race. Let's say there are not 10x as many cases in the US than the roughly 1 million we know about, let's go with 50x times as many. That would reduce the mortality to .2 %. Add that to the seasonal flu, now flu season has a .3% mortality. Take into account that some people who would have died from flu will now die from Sars-cov2 and remove say 1/3 of the total and knock mortality from both down to .2%

Even with those very positively biased numbers we will still double the amounts of death we see every year due to the regular flu, now that we are going to have the Covid-Flu combo.

This virus is NOT going away, it is now permanent in the human race, just like many others. Immunity to any corona virus just does not last in humans, you get it, you will be immune for a while, but the immunity will drop off and you can and likely will get it again. It will come back around in force every year when natural human immunity drops off every year in the colder months, just like the "flu" does in "Cold and flu season" .

The only thing keeping the spread down now is all the anti-viral measures that Americans and most of the world are taking now which we never have in the past at any time ever. Wearing masks, which do little to nothing to protect YOU, but are highly effective at stopping you from spreading any virus to others if you are infected with one. Spraying disinfectant all over the place all the time and the extra hand washing and sanitizing etc etc. As well as not being out nearly as much as we were and keeping crowd sizes to an absolute minimum.

BTW all that bullshit we are doing is also keeping the seasonal flu way down as well.

So what we are facing for our new normal future is a "Virus season" with double, triple or more higher mortality at a minimum, IF we keep on doing the anti-virus regiment at least during the season times.

If we don't? it'll be worse, but how much worse? nobody knows.

If you were hoping for a vaccine miracle cure? Keep hoping, no one has been able to make ANY corona virus vaccine yet and they have been trying for years. Maybe we'll get lucky and there will be some breakthrough this time because of the pandemic scale, but I wouldn't bet a lot on that.

For at least the next few years America and the rest of the world will be like Asia, where people wear masks all over the place during "Flu season" and many just wear them all the time.

Truth! Many people are so terrified that they must pretend the reason for their terror does not exist. I think that is the reason for many nay-sayers in this thread.

Yes, people seem to have totally wiped from memory that this is a weaponized virus, and are neglecting the fact that organ damage is the souvenir it leaves the survivors. Conversation on GLP has gone nearly entirely to debating PPE use and deliberate attack isn't even mentioned now. Time to think, people. Use your heads, not your reactions.

Masks are only good for one thing, they will keep YOU from launching very small droplets of possibly infected material as talk, cough, sneeze etc.

As time goes on I believe science will point out that the typical N95 mask isn't much good for people who aren't in the medical field and for the most part, don't know how to properly use them anyway.

Using respirators, HEPA or not, aren't going to do a lot of good either.

What will become the norm IMO is some kind of lose fitting bandanna gator type "Face covering" that will reduce droplets from flying all over and still allow for easy respiration.

The problem with all of this is that the people who really need to wear that are not the people who are going to get very sick from this virus. So typically many won't bother. They will have the virus, not get too sick and will spread it all over the place.

I doubt we are going to continue with all the disinfecting, distancing and mask wearing near a scale we are doing it now.

We'll more likely have a "virus-flu season" and about 150-200k will die every year from it.

I was just at dollar general and the girl behind the counter took down her mask because I wasn’t wearing one. She said it was so hot and hard to breathe in. Told her it didn’t bother me if she wasn’t wearing one. There was plexiglass there also. There weren’t that many people in there. And when a person came up with a mask she put it back on. Feel bad for them. Not good to be wearing one all the time.

Blowing up with cases......we were holding steady at a very low number for 3 weeks. We thought it was mostly over and then blam!! a bunch of cases--for our low population county. By "a bunch" I mean from a low single digit number to A LOT more by a rural county's standards.

They are supposed to change them a lot. If you have fabric masks have quite a few and change then often. Wash every night. Probably in baking soda because any soap left on it you will be breathing it in.
