Even more so when the technical quality of face masks varies from brand to brand, or type to type - much less ones that are nothing more than home-made scarves or wrap-around bandanas - and when the availability of legitimately micron-reducing face masks is at a premium.

NOT wearing a face mask in public will be more of a big "fuck you" to the Orwellian-1984 control-freak nature of restrictions due to SARS-CoV-2.

Face masks - assuming they're even high-quality ones to begin with - are somewhat helpful in preventing infected carriers from walking around and spreading their germs. But non-infected wearers of masks won't be that greatly boosted if they come into contact of infected people who aren't wearing face masks.

Regardless, if people are typical sloppy asses when it comes to washing their hands, their masks will be not much better than putting a bandaid on a bullet wound.

The mask requirements are not an "Orwellian control attempt," they are an attempt to stop the spread of a deadly disease. When construction workers wear orange vests when they are doing roadwork, they are often times hot and not comfortable, and they are mandated to wear them, not because of some "Orwellian" dictate, but because it provides some extra visibility and protection for them.

How is being asked to wear masks around other people in public different?
