My cousin gave me her Army Veterans cap, is it ok if I wear it in public or is it considered stolen valor?

She was in the Army and gave a blue cap. I really like it and I think it looks cool. Will I get ostracized for wearing it in public even though I never enlisted?

I won't brag about it, I just wanna go to the store and its the only clean hat I have now.

I know stolen valor is illegal and I dont wanna show up on those youtube channels.

I saw a fake Army dude walking his dog in ACU with vans on, a leather belt and he told the real Army officer his dog was a 'standard issue tactical dog"! LIKE WTF!!! XD

If it isn't uniform, clothing issued by that branch of the US military, it's just a cap. If it is issued, you cannot wear it, or shouldn't if you respect your cousin and her service.

That’s the highest level of bullshit. Army surplus stores sell issued stuff for anyone to wear. A hat isn’t a uniform. A uniform consists of several pieces. In the military missing one of those pieces means you are “out of uniform”.

I see people place things at the vet monuments and on headstones for photographs, there is a thriving buy/sell market out there

[link to www.ebay.com (secure)]

every surplus I ever shopped they had patches removed so people can't gear up and pretend to get on a base, its a security thing

but there is no denying the quality of well made .mil surplus prior to the 1970's, thread count is higher, cotton batting and padding is excellent and most of it held up well

I think OP is disingenuous with the thread, is feud fishing

Mayday is approaching and some trigger happy folk can get switched just 'seeing' army green 2moro. You know like assholes going to a persian carpet store to pose for a fake photo while in desert camo? Perps best behave next 48 hrs
treasures for pennies

12,099 items there related to military service medals. Sad.

who the fuck sells Gramps purpleheart for $49.99 freeshippin

people absolutely desperate to pay their property taxes and scramble to make a mortgage payment probably

ask the seller if this is due to financial difficulty

buy the medal and mail it back to them or donate it to a museum display, place it at the WW2 memorial in Washington

this is an example of what is going on right now, cherished heirlooms like antique quilts, beloved fishing boats. Grim.

I like some of the military clothing but won't buy and wear because I do not want to disrespect the military
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76887199

I would wear it if it was for sale cheap, was useful for whatever I was doing, or my other cloths were dirty.

Have someone needlepoint on it "Proud cousin of a" above where it says, Veterans. Problem solved. You're welcome.

As a recently retired soldier I think it's fine to wear what ever you want. Unfortunately, you will have to deal with a bunch of lame "bro vets" who have never accomplished anything other than enlisting in the military and somehow think their old uniforms are somewhat sacred. You'll get some dude yelling about how his friends died in that uniform etc.

If it says veteran on it, don’t wear it.

Roger that. Ya wanna wear a t-shirt that says army on it, sure, fine. But anything with "Veteran" on it and you bet your ass I'm going to approach to shake your hand and ask you where you served. If you stutter, make some shit up, or tell me you didn't serve, I won't hesitate to call your ass out publicly.

Wear what ever you want but I would stay clear of any SF insignia they do get pissed. SHit there is more contractors these days then military. What everyone over looks is the military is just a JOB period and a very low paying one. This whole service thing is just bull shit pentagon propaganda. Feel good BS for the public and dumb ass kids stupid enough to sign a contract for peanuts.

In the UK, the rule is, you can wear an old uniform, but not the badges on it.

I dunno...maybe clip it on your shoulder rather than wear it on your head

btw...I think soldiers are just legal murderers

but if you think its valid...maybe just chose how you die that day
