Documented Science: Researchers Modify Viruses with CRISPR
Yes they have been modifying pathogens in the lab

"Earlier this month, the annual CRISPR 2017 conference was held at Montana State University. Attendees were the first to hear about successes companies have had using CRISPR to engineer viruses to kill bacteria. One of the most exciting potential application for these viruses, called bacteriophages, would be killing bacteria that have become resistant to antibiotics. At least two of the companies aim to start clinical trials of these engineered viruses within 18 to 24 months."

Re: Documented Science: Researchers Modify Viruses with CRISPR
For some reason MSM has flipped on this in the past 48 hrs

"A genetically modified virus is a virus that has been altered or generated using biotechnology methods, and remains capable of infection. Genetic modification involves the directed insertion, deletion, artificial synthesis or change of nucleotide bases in viral genomes. Genetically modified viruses are mostly generated by the insertion of foreign genes intro viral genomes for the purposes of biomedical, agricultural, bio-control, or technological objectives. The terms genetically modified virus and genetically engineered virus are used synonymously."

Re: Documented Science: Researchers Modify Viruses with CRISPR
In the past year, maybe last summer shortly after CRISPR began making the news again the stories being put out was that the underlying technology studied hadn't been vetted by peer review before biotech spinoffs from Stanford started trying to cash in. One group supposedly debunked that the CRISPR method was viable at all.

Seems like another party made "good" on use of that discredited tech somehow..
