WELL TRUMP DID SAY INFRASTRUCTURE WAS NEXT.

NOW HE'S DOING IT.

WE'RE GOING BACK TO MADE IN AMERICA INDUSTRIAL AGE (WITH THE MODERN DIFFERENCES) AGAIN!

I FOR ONE WELCOME IT. I WANT TO SEE CHEMICAL FACTORIES MAKING OUR SUPPLEMENTS, MEDICINES, RAW MATERIALS, MADE IN AMERICA.

AS WELL AS ALL THE OTHER INDUSTRY WE SHOVED OVER INTO OTHER COUNTRIES SO CEO''S COULD SAVE A BUCK.

Re: Trump just Federalized the Grid Today
so this will keep PG%E from playing it's power outage grids every fall now while they clear land with wildfires for agenda 2030 chicommm style.

this sounds like trump giving newsom a nice heads up. we know what you've been doing the last couple years with those 'outages' in cali.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1929030

PG&E and National Grid were both shutting down power, over driving natural gas, then turning the power back on. Not anymore.

They were behind the CA firs and the 120 homes that exploded in Boston.

Can they still do it? Probably yes through the Spectre exploit, but not for long. Army corps of Engineers are on it. So are many in the private sector.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 35676288

I’m from that area. Talked to people affected. I always felt that there was WAY more than they were telling us. All you need is to hack the control panel and reroute pressure where you shouldn’t. Then boom.

Where are transformers made? What is the stockpile in the US? If American companies can tool up to build millions of ventilators, they sure as heck can tool up to rebuild the National Grid...and when can we have our few billions back for BCHydro stolen by Enron so our power prices drop?
 Quoting: Lance Roseman From BC

Yeah. That’s amazing and all, but imagine what happens when areas don’t have electricity for a month, plus.
 Quoting: AmericanSpyglass

WHy would it be a month or so? Not seeing your connection here?
 Quoting: Lance Roseman From BC

I’m thinking worse case scenario. Let’s be practical there are millions of transformers in the United States. I dont have exact numbers but I am sure someone here knows. The point is, the power companies don’t have enough in storage to replace all of them, not to mention the manpower.

I also don’t know how an EMP or hack works exactly, but there are lots of other electronic devices that might need some help too.

Edit - it also takes weeks sometimes to restore power to a nation ravaged by a hurricane. We are fools to think an attack on the grid would be nothing similar.
 Quoting: AmericanSpyglass

The after effects of a broad outage would be closer to NYC in 2004 or the Bahamas during Hurricane Dorian. No power anywhere vs. a normal storm that leaves some areas still in lights.

No power=no gasoline, no credit/debit card transactions, sometimes no water. Our society would begin to crumble in days not weeks.

Re: Trump just Federalized the Grid Today
(b) The term “bulk-power system electric equipment” means items used in bulk-power system substations, control rooms, or power generating stations, including reactors, capacitors, substation transformers, current coupling capacitors, large generators, backup generators, substation voltage regulators, shunt capacitor equipment, automatic circuit reclosers, instrument transformers, coupling capacity voltage transformers, protective relaying, metering equipment, high voltage circuit breakers, generation turbines, industrial control systems, distributed control systems, and safety instrumented systems. Items not included in the preceding list and that have broader application of use beyond the bulk-power system are outside the scope of this order.

I work in the power generation industry. Most power plants are controlled by Windows 7 desktop computers, linked to Allen Bradley PLCs which actually do the direct controlling of the generation unit.

Is there such a thing as a desktop PC made in the USA? I don't think the PLCs are made in the USA either, actually I'm sure they aren't.

How the hell am I supposed to go about rectifying this situation? It could cost millions of dollars to convert the PLC logic to an American made PLC, of which I don't even know of one that exists.

great thing
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78864696

Yes, but let’s say we are in a state of war, this order admits the grid has massive vulnerabilities, actors are documented attempting to exploit these vulnerabilities, and the threat is legitimate enough to issue an executive order protecting our grid and stopping all foreign dependence.

Something is fucky.
 Quoting: AmericanSpyglass

Trump knows the Deep State fuckers planned to zap us all with ultra-powerful 5G shit that they've been secretly installing all over the place for years. He just took away their ability to turn that destructive shit on. Don't believe me? Take a good look at the streetlights in your city. They're all LED's now and have thick black antennas sticking out of the top. That's weaponized 5G infrastructure.

You're telling me that with a stroke of a pen, Trump just required the entire grid to throw out their computers and PLCs and replace them with domestically made hardware, which even if it FUCKING EXISTED, would cost a trillion dollars to replace????

 Quoting: Lance Roseman From BC

The transformers are made in China and South America. They take 18-24 months to get on the "fast track". These are significant assets. Generally, there are no extras kept in stock.

I would not doubt the ability of American manufacturing to re-tool and produce this equipment if needed, but to my knowledge, we don't currently have the ability. That said, our grid is just that. It's a redundant electric system. It may not be impenetrable, but we can get it back up and running very quickly if needed.

I've spent most of my life working with electricity and our electric grid. My friends and co-workers understand how critical the service that we provide is to our community. We are your neighbors. We don't intend to let you down.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78691169

A tree fell, late on a Thursday night during a storm. Wiped out the power, tore the mast off the house. We called BCHydro using the battery power from a now defunct car to cut the power. The local electricians showed up Friday afternoon, stayed until 8pm fixed everything, signed off on it, then BCHydro showed up about midnight and checked everything and the power was back on. Three cheers for you and your friends everywhere!

I don’t know where it all went but I’m not going to pretend that if they had suspicions of the grid being at risk and had to put a plan together to fix it that they wouldn’t slide some of that money to companies who would be able mass produce whatever is needed. Nothing is that. What it does is give the feds enough
'authority' to stop using foreign equipment or parts
to fix or update or otherwise install on the grid because---
every foreign country that makes parts for electrical
equipment is an "untrustworthy source".

He's protecting us. Why do you always have to 'push fear'
over issues that have TWO SIDES??!!

If you have not noticed, U.S. manufacturing is not done
here anymore, it's produced outside our own country.

Would you trust foreign labor and equipment including parts
to our grid?????

Because it seems to me the 'new normal' is STOP TRUSTING
FOREIGNERS.

We saw what CHI-NAH did to us with medical supplies.

I think it's a start to stop our country from being
exploited through cheap labor with enemies.

BUT---take the "glass is half empty" on issues. You'll
ruin your sleep cycle for nothing.

The President is not the problem. Foreign investment
into production from greedy corporations is tho'...
