Yes, the gov't shut everything down, but then for those who aren't working, they are paying us $600/week. You should be paying rent with that money...that is what this is for. I not only pay every month, but I texted my landlord and let him know he would continue to get paid on time every month through this. I figured he's appreciate the peace of mind of knowing at least one of his tenants isn't going to be a problem. NOTHING is more important to me than the roof over my family's head, it is my top priority. I really don't understand people that buy TV's or whatever and blow off rent. That eviction is going to come sooner or later, then what are you going to do?

Shitty, month to month tenants who could usually be told to leave at the landlord's discretion with a simple 20 day written notice are protected by this eviction ban, and its putting some landlords in a bad position. I'm not talking about the good tenants who simply can't pay their rent.

How long before landlords get fucking fed up with this shit? You can't even get rid of drug addicts and scum bags. Just, what the fuck?
 Quoting: ~fish out of water~

What state are you in that you can get them out in 20 days?

Not in Oregon.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77181591

Washington. Same state where it's ridiculously easy to be deemed a "tenant" (i.e. no lease, no rental agreement, no rent payments ever exchanging hands). It's next to impossible to get rid of a deadbeat druggie once they have been deemed a "tenant" under the WA landlord tenant act. In fact, it's a real problem with homeless squatters - the state makes it very, very difficult to evict them.

Greedy landlord are the root of my all evil..

Yep it's time..
A mortgage is your home your bank loaned and making others pay off your investment plus extra greed in you add on.. while they take care and look after your investment,, you charge them to do so..

The price of rent and buying a new home will be slashed by half price.

Look's like op stressed can't pay his investment, had to put Tennant's in to buy and pay for it..

Rot in Hell you greedy parasite.

You must have missed the part where we were basically letting a homeless guy stay her FOR FREE so he wouldn't have to sleep in his truck in the freezing cold of winter. Never charged him rent or utilities - never took a dime from him. Just asked that he use his respite from living in his truck as an opportunity to pull it together & better his own situation for himself.

How does that make me parasitic?

I don't rent to people, ever. This was an attempt to give a homeless guy a leg up. He's only a "tenant" in the legal sense (because this state broadly defines tenancy such that even squatters aare regarded as "tenants" & property owners have to go to court to have them physically evicted by the sheriff) - but there was no lease, was NEVER any rent charged.

People would typically call him a "guest who has overstayed his welcome".

I think owning more than one home, (the home YOU live in) should be illegal

You only have one body- NO ONE needs more than one home-No one on the planet needs more than one home. Investment properties do no good except for the owner. They drive up the realestate price, the rental price, also allowing real estate agents to piggy back driving the price of rent up-. All this causes lack of available housing planet wide.

Sorry OP you are an opportunistic parasite and so is anyone else that consumes/ owns more than one person needs.

You decided to be a slumlord because of some rich guy book you read. Good god if you paid for the seminar, you are much worse off than most.

You know what they say about people who assume things, right?
 Quoting: ~fish out of water~

You are right. It was not an assumption about you though but a generalization. If you are the exception then great. I do know people who get into real estate and focus only on the next property and could give a crap less about real people living in the ones they already "bought".
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69176194

No. We're not money grubbing. We're not even well off. we're fucking stupid. Tried to help a friend of a friend who had nowhere to go back in January when it was freezing & he was sleeping in his truck. Didnt ask anything of him except that he help himself & get his life in order. He dragged his feet & fucked off, refused to leave when it became clear to us he had no intention of doing much of anything.

Cue eviction ban.

He invoked his "tenants rights" when the eviction ban came down. Fucking fantastic. I came across his stash of dirty needles the other day while cleaning, and I'm fucking done.

Despite the fact that he never paid one red cent toward rent or utilities, we can't legally get rid of the asshole.
 Quoting: ~fish out of water~

Been there done that, never again.
You go out of your way to help people, who then try to fuck you over, treat you like your stupid & use the daylights out of you whilst treating you like crap.
Oddly when you finally get them to move out, the " friendship " ends.

God forbid you let someone stay as a guest & tell them you don't want them bringing home strangers to root in your spare room ... suddenly YOU are the " control freak ".

Fark him, get someone to get him the hell moved on & then no more favours, as more often than not the people only need " favours " as they fucked over the ones before you & ended up thrown out due to it.

What the fuck? I only have one home.

I guess I fucked up with the title. I should have explained better.

I'm not a "landlord" in any sense - I only have ONE home - MY home. I don't have rental properties. I don't rent to people ever. I let this guy stay here to get his life together (not realizing he was an IV drug addict). This guy is living in MY HOME - rent free from the outset - and all I asked is that he use his time here to get his life together.

Now, because of the eviction ban, I'm stuck with him and finding his used drug needles in boxes and cabinet drawers IN MY HOUSE.

The problem is there's no way to "get him the hell moved on" during an eviction moratorium.

You pretty much nailed everything else though. After the experience, I'm going full hermit. I'm obviously a very bad judge of character.

My tenant has never lost her job during the pandemic
Works at a law office
Pays me $780 month for rent
Today she said she only has half months rent and not sure if she will be able to pay the other half
I went off on her...the fact she can’t scrape another $390
At this point, it’s disrespect and it’s obvious she’s trying to milk the situation
Told her she’s disrespectful which she is
If I lost money at the stock market I wouldn’t all of a sudden raise rent on her so why is her shitty financial burden be my problem?
Fkin cunt
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 35977961

She's trying to use the situation to screw you over and is either paying down her credit cards or trying to buy a big screen. People who are taking advantage of this situation when the are still working and could pay rent lack integrity. At least now you know what you have living in your property.
