Sedgwick County ends coronavirus tip line after O’Donnell calls it ‘Gestapo’ tactic

"As the Wichita area prepares to reopen thousands of business amid the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, the Sedgwick County Commission is shutting down what members called a “snitch line” for residents to report violations of ongoing public health orders.

“It feels way too much like a police state; that’s not America,” said Commissioner Michael O’Donnell, who made the motion to eliminate a web portal set up to give residents a place to report the kinds of mass gatherings that have been prohibited in the effort to prevent the spread of the virus."

There's no denying that we've reached our peak locally, and the numbers of people on the streets bears testament to that.

Two weeks ago, city streets were largely barren of cars; yesterday, traffic volumes on main arteries were back up to about 50% of normal even as all non-essential businesses remain closed and a visit to your bank drive-thru still includes a long wait. Today, many restaurants are reopening under new standards.

The full reopening plan stretches out to June 1st with non-essential businesses up and running in about three more weeks.

As much as I despise our Democratic Governor Kelly, she handled this entire nightmare rather well - as did the citizens of Kansas!
