Why do some people sit in their cars at night with their headlights on and not go anywhere?

I'm not sure why they would keep their headlights on, but I can see why people might be sitting in their cars at night and have the dome lights on. 1) parents waiting for kids to be finished with games or practices of various types. They might be sitting there working on work they brought home, reading, doing a puzzle... 2) couple gets into an argument and one takes off and parks somewhere to cool down a bit. 3) college student who cannot find a quiet place to study.

They probably keep the car running off and on (because they either have their dome lights, the radio, or the a/c or heater) so they don't burn down their battery and have their headlights on auto.
