Brother of ex-Green Beret in failed Venezuela coup pleads for help from US

The brother of one of two former US special forces soldiers captured by Venezuelan troops after what officials called a botched coup attempt to oust President Nicolás Maduro has pleaded with the Trump administration to help save his life, according to a report.

Luke Denman, 34, and Airan Berry, 41, who were nabbed Monday in the port city of La Guaira, are believed to be among 300 “mercenaries” recruited in Colombia for the attempted coup, which Maduro has blamed on the US.

They are believed to be among eight men caught by the security forces of the Maduro regime, according to the Daily Mail.

President Trump on Tuesday denied any involvement in the mission, dubbed Operation Gedeón.

The White House has made no secret that it would like to see the end of Maduro, who was recently indicted in the US as a drug trafficker, with a $15 million bounty offered for his arrest.

Mark Denman, the brother of the former Green Beret, said his family was in shock but hoped the US government would use all its resources to help return Luke home.

Luke, one of three siblings to have served in the military, received specialist field medical training and has been deploy in Iraq, the UK news outlet reported.

“Luke’s motivation has always been to help others in any way he can,” Mark told the Daily Mail. “He thinks of kids who are being harmed and innocent people who are suffering and I’m sure this was his motivation to do this.”

So the dude is real if his brother confirmed his identity, he's a real person, and an ex-green beret, it's astonishing how most of GLP doesn't want to see the obvious and is defending this whole story as some anti-american propaganda.

A mercenary, sometimes known as a soldier of fortune, is an individual who takes part in military conflict for personal profit, is otherwise an outsider to the conflict, and is not a member of any other official military. Mercenaries fight for money or other forms of payment rather than for political interests. Beginning in the 20th century, mercenaries have increasingly come to be seen as less entitled to protections by rules of war than non-mercenaries. Indeed, the Geneva Conventions declare that mercenaries are not recognized as legitimate combatants and do not have to be granted the same legal protections as captured service personnel of a regular army. In practice, whether or not a person is a mercenary may be a matter of degree, as financial and political interests may overlap, as was often the case in all of history.

Mercs don't have the same rights by the Geneva conventions as legal, official army combatants, means they can be liquidated on sight without any consequences.

Jordan Goudreau, another former Green Beret, said Monday that he was working with the two men in a mission to detain Maduro and “liberate” Venezuela.

Goudreau has claimed responsibility for the operation.

In a video posted on social media after the botched coup, Goudreau was seen alongside rebel captain Javier Nieto Quintero, saying their men were “continuing to fight.”

But in an interview with the Daily Mail, Goudreau claimed their operation was “over” and that his aim was on getting his men back to the US.

Being a Green Beret that served in Iraq and Afghanistan does not give me any confidence in his abilities. Been fighting insurgents that use donkeys and motorcycles in Afghanistan for over 18 years now and Iraqi insurgents have our forces locked down in the FOB's. American forces do not know how to fight wars to a conclusion anymore.

And why should he care? Did they not know what shitpile they were stepping into when they put their boots on? Were they not aware of the compensation and possibility of no return when they signed on?

What exactly does this have to do with Trump?

Re: Brother of ex-Green Beret in failed Venezuela coup pleads for help from US
Mercs know that they are not representing the United States when they take the job. They know that the government is not responsible for them, and they know that they can't depend on the government to bail them out. They took the job for money, not for love of country. Let their employer take care of it.

I know a guy that did this, but he was lucky enough to come home every time. He did it because the Marines thought he might not be mentally stable enough to be trusted with a gun. They were right. He, like most Mercs, is a drug abuser and could never pass a pee test. Private employers aren't as picky as the Marines.
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

This ! If they were just "mercs" and not u.s.military . they have no hope of backing .If they were hired by the cia...Well good luck with that.

"Plausible deniability" being what it is: Watch "American made"( the Barry seal story)with Tom Cruise. After all the gun running ,drug running, and money laundering. And the Feds were closing in on Barry and his flight operation in Mena, Arkansas

The Agent who recruited, funded and ran him( whom he knew only as "Shrader"...I think)is walking away... Barry asks:
What do we do now "Shrader"?

"Shrader keeps walking, replies: "Who the fuck is "Shrader"?

Unless these are uniform wearing u.s. troops. President Trump has little to do with it.The CIA has been "off the leash" since its inception.

Re: Brother of ex-Green Beret in failed Venezuela coup pleads for help from US
IF the mercs are real (albeit amateurs),

and IF the native resistance to Commie Dictator Maduro is real,

and IF the mercs were there to help the freedom fighters to throw off the chains of their tyranny,

then more power to them!

Now the resistance needs to step up and rescue them.

Contrary to what some believe here, most Western ex-mil. mercs do tend to only work for those they consider to be the "good" guys, meaning they either support their cause, or politically or morally oppose the other side. And most mercs think of themselves as either 'security contractors' or as 'trainers, support personnel, etc.'

Invariably these days, mercs tend to be hired by the losing side who is in need of more troops, and has funding to spend on them. They are often fighting a lost cause. The winning side usually has all the money, troops, and military hardware they need.

One nation's 'freedom fighter' is another nation's 'terrorist' or 'insurgent'.

Who are you rooting for, the freedom fighters or the dictator?
