Death of Stephen Mineo, ex-follower of Sherry Shriner, featured in episode of Deadly Cults. TONIGHT 10pm EST
Oxygen Channel just aired the episode of the show, Deadly Cults, titled "Online Alien Reptiles," at 7pm EST. They are re-airing it again at 10pm EST tonight.

The episode goes into how Stephen Mineo, aged 32, was deeply involved in the Sherry Shriner "cult" since his teens. As his relationship with his girlfriend, Barbara Rogers, deepened, he had a crisis of faith when Sherry disapproved of Barbara. He finally disavowed Sherry's teachings and started an online campaign to expose her, as he perceived it.

They go into the Sherry Shriner phenomenon in the show. It is fascinating to see conspiracy topics such as reptilians covered so overtly in a TV show.

I had not heard of this case, but a GLP thread happened in 2017, at the time of the event:

Thread: HOLY SHIT!! One of Sherry Shriner's followers is murdered by 'super soldier' wife!!

The circumstances surrounding his death are portrayed as murky--whether it was Stephen asking his girlfriend, Barbara to kill him out of depression of losing his longtime online "family," or whether she murdered him outright.

Barbara is serving 15-40 years for third degree murder.

She is featured heavily in the episode.

'Deadly Cults' to feature 2017 Pennsylvania Murder

Posted May 9, 2020 at 7:27 AM

A 2017 Monroe County murder connected to an online cult will be featured on Sunday’s episode of “Deadly Cults.”

Right from Barbara Rogers’ 911 call about the shooting death of her boyfriend, 32-year-old Stephen Mineo, it was clear that the case would be unusual.

During that call early on July 15, 2017, Rogers claimed both that Mineo pulled the trigger, and that she accidentally pulled it after he grabbed her hand.

...

Rogers’ interview with police revealed the second strange layer of the case: the “weird religious cult” led by Sherry Shriner.

Footage of her interview with police is included in the Oxygen show, which airs at 7 p.m. Sunday and repeats at 10 p.m. The program also lays out the evidence that contradicts Rogers’ story, interviews those who knew Mineo, and delves into the cult’s beliefs. (Though Shriner has died, she left behind an extensive internet presence including audio and video.)

A rift between Shriner and the couple left Mineo suicidal, Rogers told police.

Homicide Victim Allegedly Asked Girlfriend to Shoot Him Because of 'Aliens and Raptures' Cult Connection

July 18, 2017 03:37 PM

A Pennsylvania woman is behind bars after she allegedly admitted she fatally shot her boyfriend — but claimed he wanted her to kill him because of issues he was having with a cult.

Barbara Rogers, 42, was charged with criminal homicide and is being held without bail in the death of her 32-year-old boyfriend Steven Mineo, who was found dead in their Coolbaugh Township apartment on July 15.

...

Rogers told police the couple had been feuding with Sherry Shriner, the founder of a website that posts about conspiracy theories, doomsday preparations, soul scalping and a “new-age alien agenda.”

“The victim believed that contrary to her appearance, Shriner was actually ‘reptilian,'” the complaint states.

Shriner, who agreed to be interviewed by PEOPLE over email, claims she became friends with Mineo on Facebook in 2010.

“Steve liked revolution, surviving the coming hard times etc…zombie apocalypse, survival, typical stuff for guys I guess,” she says.

Shriner says they recently had a falling out over his relationship with Rogers.
