Hollywood is seeing a wave of staff reductions from the corporate suites to the theme park turnstiles as entertainment giants including the Walt Disney Co. and Endeavor implement layoffs and furloughs in response to the Chinese coronavirus pandemic.

Just how bad is the carnage? In Los Angeles County alone, 14,000 entertainment-related workers saw their jobs evaporate in less than two months, according to a new report from tech news outlet dot.LA. Meanwhile, Tinseltown could see even more bloodshed in the second quarter

Doesn't matter if Hollywood ever reopens or not. All of the good movies and TV shows have already been made. Good riddance.

I love the fact that they now realize they are non-essential

The entertainment industry isn't just about tv and movies - roadies, costume designers, set designers, etc all the hard working blue collar workers that SLAVE away to provide for their families while those at the top make all the money.

Those are the hardworking people that are now unemployed. the rich aren't trying to collect unemployment. They are sitting in their kushy Hollywood pads while the people you are making fun of are the ones scrambling to figure out how to provide.

Before we throw stones we should be talking about those at the top that aren't taking care of the hardworking people that slaved away to make the rich richer.

Even more disgusting.. they make that entire industry be self employed contractors. 90% of them work for the actual big name companies. Many of them haven't even been able to get unemployment because of this. The whole thing is gross. They save money not hiring them out right.

I know this because my husband is a roadie for a MAJOR artist. We have been given two checks for $1000 each from Crew Nation and Crew Cares. That's all the money we've seen. 20 years in an industry and we are treated like shit. My husband works on the road 11 months of the year to make millions for others and this is what we get. 2 grand. Been laid off with no pay since March 9th when he was sent home from tour.

everyday more hollyweirdos go on the no watch list too bad . I like some of them . they should keep their mouths shut.nobody cares about their politics

unfortunately its not the higher ups its the lower level people like set designers, costume makers, etc

This would be good news if it happened before.
However, seeing as the Agenda is to keep everyone at home enjoying life online, then its really taking out the 3D real world experience, the human experience, of enjoying entertainment together.Of keeping us apart.

That want us all Cyborgs living online in their synthetic world.

So before we rah, rah the end of the world as we've known it, let consider what they are planning on replacing it with.

All they had to do was clean up the entertainment world and make it more wholesome, there was no need to totally destroy it.

That industry can die, but their skills can be used in growing industries. Set design probably translates to the construction industry, where we'll try to use less illegals. Costume makers to the fashion industry.

AMC Entertainment, the movie-theater chain owned by Chinese conglomerate Dalian Wanda, has purchased Carmike Cinemas, a rival 3,000-screen chain known as “America’s hometown theater circuit,” for $1.1 billion. The deal puts AMC into the top spot in the US movie-theater industry, with 8,380 screens in over 600 theaters across the country.

It also puts even more of the US entertainment industry into Chinese control, as deep-pocketed Chinese tycoons seek partnerships with Hollywood studios, gaming companies, and digital-effects studios. Wang Jianlin, who owns Dalian Wanda, has been one of the most aggressive—the group purchased Jurassic World producer Legendary Entertainment in January for $3.5 billion.

You will have sniffles and crying real tears when you don't have a new movie to watch on NetFlix, Amazon, or HULU because they has not being any actors, actresses, directors, producers because they are unemployment due to the Covid closures. Mark my words, and I am crying for ya!
