I saw that in the theaters with Alien that year as a kid, world of Sci-Fi was almost unstoppable, Star Trek sucked.

THE most un-disney movie they ever made

but a top notch movie to boot, stellar cast, pardon the pun, and and ending that will blow your minds

ending freaked me out as an 11 year old kid

that was probably the intent

if you play the 'window arch scene' -- it is amazing how they do the music change from haunting 'minor' to happy 'major' in one second

and the visuals change within 2 seconds -- suddenly you are like WTF - it changes your emotions HUGELY in just a few seconds

a movie for the over 20 crowd for sure , not good for kids

Fake people being built and replacing crew of ship. That point seemed to haunt me as child, as story progressed. The little robots attract children and is future conditioning. And ultimately I think the black hole will have a big end part, in the end of all things.

I, too, bought a ticket to see it. I'd read some pre-release propaganda about it. Stuff like "Star Wars was a successful movie. Now, Disney demonstrates how it's done." Seemed plausible enough to me.

Since I'd paid hard-earned dollars for my ticket, I sat through the entire movie. I'd probably sit through a bad movie even today, for the same reason. But I'm more selective now. The last movie I bought a ticket to see in the picture show place was A Dog's Porpoise, from which I think I got my $6 worth of enjoyment (Wednesday discount day).

Maybe my disgust with The Black Hole explains why I've avoided the Disney Star Wars films.

Man, I remember that movie. I just re-watched Ice Pirates with my daughter the other night. She loved it, but she is a horror film buff, mostly 80's stuff.

In the past few weeks we have watched Poltergeist 1-3, House 2, Phantasm 2, Hellraiser 1&2, Nightmare on Elm street 1-3, Dark Crystal, and several more. She can't get enough of it, and I'm enjoying sharing these experiences with her.

I'm more of a science fiction/fantasy guy myself, so I have been able to sneak in a few of my old favorites, which she has also enjoyed... Flight of the Navigator, Legend, Labyrinth, Harry and the Hendersons, The Never Ending Story, Goonies, to name a few.

I think some of the best movies came out in the 80's.

THE absolute best evil robot murder scene ever to be captured on film.
