BEIJING (AP) — China’s commerce ministry says it will take “all necessary measures” in response to new U.S. restrictions on Chinese tech giant Huawei’s ability to use American technology, calling the measures an abuse of state power and a violation of market principles.

An unidentified spokesperson quoted Sunday in a statement on the ministry’s website said the regulations also threatened the security of the “global industrial and supply chain.”

“The U.S. uses state power, under the so-called excuse of national security, and abuses export control measures to continuously oppress and contain specific enterprises of other countries,” the statement said.

China will “take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises,” it said.

Under the new rules, foreign semiconductor makers who use American technology must obtain a U.S. license to ship Huawei-designed semiconductors to the Chinese company.

Chip design and manufacturing equipment used in the world’s semiconductor plants is mostly U.S.-made, so the new rule affects foreign producers that sell to Huawei and affiliates including HiSilicon, which makes chips for supercomputers with scientific and military uses. The U.S. Commerce Department said foreign foundries would be granted a 120-day grace period for chips already in production.

And it goes further. It's increasingly harder to find electronic components that DON'T use at lease a few Chinese parts. This includes sensitive defense systems. Sure, the system may be made in the U.S. or in an allied country, but if you look deeply enough, you will find a Chinese chip or two.

And that's the problem.

So many of these systems are on the internet, defense networks, or in RF devices (radios). In a war, many can be shut down or coopted by the Chinese.

It is laughable that China has the audacity to do and say such things considering they’re the #1 source of all fakes, replicas and cheap knock-off merchandise.

Unfortunately, they’ve got their tentacles firmly wrapped around so many corporations that use greed to ship what should be American jobs overseas. It disgusts me to see this happen so often in the pursuit of cheap labor and higher profits but, being the Devil’s advocate here, that’s what any company would do if presented with the promise of high profits and low wages versus the opposite. Yes, it would be wonderful to keep the work here in the States but you all know as well as I do that if you’re an entrepreneur looking to hit it big and you can get that by using Chinese resources you’d do it. Don’t deny it. This mainly applies to major corporations, by the way, so small- to medium-sized businesses would likely still use labor and materials from here since it wouldn’t be cost effective to go overseas. But I’m no business major so I could be wrong.

Bottom line: China sucks and they don’t deserve anything we give them but companies have empowered them so much that you’ll never see them give up their holdings there.

Regarding a couple of points you made.

It isn't only Corporations, our government needs China to borrow money from, through Treasuries, and should we decided to default on the loan.... there goes our international credit rating!
