Bush appeals for support for troop withdrawal plan from Iraq

WASHINGTON, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President George W. Bush appealed for support for his step-by-step troop withdrawal plan from Iraq when he met with Iraq war veterans and their families on Tuesday.

President Bush, along with his wife Laura Bush and several senior military officials, held a morning reception for about 850 members of military support organizations at the South Lawn.

U.S. President George W. Bush appealed for support for his step-by-step troop withdrawal plan from Iraq when he met with Iraq war veterans and their families on Tuesday.

"We recognize that if we were to retreat from the Middle East, the enemy would not be content to remain where they are, but they would follow us here," he said in a speech. "And we recognize that the best way to protect our homeland is to defeat an enemy overseas so we do not have to face them here on the streets of America."

Outlined in his speech addressed to the nation last week, Bush plans to retreat about 57,000 troops from Iraq by Christmas and further withdraw about 21,500 by next July, but leaving at least 130,000 in Iraq through the middle of 2008 or longer.

"I ask the United States Congress to support the troop levels and the strategies I have embraced," Bush told the groups including Families United for Our troops and Their Mission, and the American Legion.

The plan, however, is still short of satisfying Democrats and most public. Demanding much larger size of reduction, Democratic lawmakers are preparing to submit another defense bill later this week to push in Congress for a more significant withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

It's a shame they can't give back the lives and the country that they have taken. That's the tragedy: the unhappiness and despair that has been generated.

He's not bringing anyone home. It's NORMAL TROOP ROTATION people. He's using for political points. He couldn't keep those men there if he wanted to. Their 15 months are up. The surge will rise again when they've had their minimum legal time back.

I originally called about the re-vote they are having this week and the dream act offering another type of amnesty.

Get our boys back now. Our borders are open and we need them shut. Get our border guards out of prison. NOW and stop this secretive BS. What happen in Minot, why isn't it on mainstream. Oh I forgott, they are useless. Of course people I've told, when they asked and everyone did, Why didn't we hear about this. I told them the TV News is obsolete and they should cancel it and turn to internet.

Problem is, there were no terrorists in Iraq prior to the invasion. Through the terrible tragedy the U.S. has caused in Iraq & Afghanistan, there will undoubted be many more generations of terrorist to come seeking to destroy as many Americans as possible to avenge the deaths of their family members. These people do hold grudges and seek revenge, as witnessed the grudges they hold against thier fellow Arabs, from different sects, that has been ongoing for centuries.

As far as a withdrawl plan, they are only going back to the pre-surge numbers. There will not be a total withdrawal from Iraq. American troops will be guarding the oil supplies until they run out. Then, the troops will be brought home. The U.S. military is only being used as the security force for multi-national corporations and the strong-arm force for pushing through what power hungry, greedy politicians want from other countries.

Yea, too bad we can't rustle up a private air fleet to start bringing the troops home - The new Virgin America perhaps? Jet Blue care to donate their some of their flights to just going over to pick the kids up and bring em on home. If Bush won't maybe WE should figure out a way to do it. Too much time has gone by.

He needs more help than they can give him.

He's so outta touch, I wonder if he knows what day it is.

According to Sorcha Faal's analysis, and she seems to know more about the particularities of our situation than we do, there are two factions in our military -- one fighting for more imperialist expansion, the other trying to stop it.

It has already become a bloody civil war within the military, the fact being that the six whistleblowers who called attention to those loose nukes were all KILLED within day, probably of course, by the imperialist faction of the military.

I hope they will all hang someday. They are tearing up this entire planet, for NOTHING!!!@!

D- you know as well as the rest this isn't anything more than smoke up the families asses. He has no intention of bringing them back to USA. If anything, shipping them off across the border there.

But, I think North Korea, Syria and Egypt will come well before Iran. Unless Iran steps in to help Egypt.
