Quoting: Anonymous Coward 65038713 if you really loved your cat you would have had a private cremation are you poor, or just cheap? I didn’t know what to do, I had to make a decision, and they wanted to charge me $200 to let me keep the ashes. How would I have been able to do a private cremation, take her home with me? I just felt rushed to make a decision, and the whole thing was traumatic. They brought her outside so I could see her one last time no one told me I could bring her home, or do a private thing. I feel like she was just ripped from me.:( :( your Vet lied. they pool all the deceased animals and due a mass cremation we went to a private pet crematory for all of our beloved dogs [link to preciouspetscrematory.com] I really hate to add this, because I know you are very upset and grieving the loss of your pet. That your vet would demand the $200 to "keep the ashes" sends up a RED FLAG to me--this is very unethical and if they are doing something like THAT it is very possible that something is "fishy" about their story that your cat died suddenly. There may be something going on (they may have banked on your NOT paying the $200 so that they don't have to give you the actual proof your pet died under their watch.) Or even worse...the cat may have escaped and they don't wish to tell you that...or they gave YOUR CAT to someone else by mistake and it's causing them a problem on their end but don't wish to share this with you. All sorts of things might be going on. I would contact someone--the Humane Society may help out--or go to the office yourself and question the receptionist (someone besides the vet might tell you the real "skinny" on what happened to your pet.) I would seriously check it out. You may be able to recover your pet in the end--it's a long shot. Something is off about all of this. She was very ill when I brought her, already close to death. And they let me see her after she died. Private cremations are more expensive because the ashes are of just your pet. The cheaper option is when they are cremated with other pets, and you don’t receive any ashes. I just learned about that last part, of I could do it over again, I would have brought her home, and found a company to do a private ceremony. This way is much more traumatic, it’s like she was ripped from my life. Doom is not dead. |

I just feel they weren’t that compassionate for some reason. Maybe freaked out from working during Covid19. I’m going to find an older, more mature vet next time. I am absolutely devastated. I want my ol’ Bo back. Quoting: MoonSlice Just find a vet that you get a good vibe from. I have known older vets who have manhandled the animals almost to the point of injuring them. Word of mouth is key. Find someone who praises a vet and then go to them telling them about the praise. |

If she suffered she sure did keep it under wraps. I think she was silently suffering, which kills me. She was dying a whole day before I took her in. I just didn't know it was that serious she just looked like she wasn't feeling to well, and sleepy, she slept 12 hours a day anyway so I did it wrong. I feel guilty about it. I wish she had been more vocal, because as soon as I heard her meow in the car, I knew she was deathly ill. Never heard a meow like that. |

Quoting: guitar ace So sorry! How did yours die, how old? Me too, I hope before I die someday I will see her. it wasn't a cat actually. it was a baby robin that somehow found its way into my place. probably about 5 days old. i gave her all my time, even having to order worms to feed her. i gave her mango strawberries, bluberries. fed her and showed her to the parents everyday when they came to my yard looking for her. after about 3 weeks she was flying short distances but always came back to the house and hang out and get fed. i have a little fenced in area i grow lettuce in that the birds can't get to and i let that be her house in the day. the nights were cold and rainy so i brought her in to sleep indoors. we would chirp back and forth to each other. it rained all day sunday so i had her inside. but for a little bit it stopped raining so i brought her outside and looked to find worms for her. at first she flew to her house and i went to find worms. i looked away for a second and when i looked back one of my dogs got her. it was the worst. i still feel so sorry for and to the bird. it was too late by the time i noticed. it was ugly. i buried her outside my door and planted some mint there. in another week she was probably going to be fully on her own. it was all such a waste. i wanted to kill my dog but i didn't. still having a hard time forgiving him though, i think he was jealous of it. she was just a baby. ooops, sorry for the wall of text. here she is [link to thumbsnap.com (secure)] Last Edited by guitar ace on 05/20/2020 09:02 PM |

She was a stray that we found in our garage 4 winters ago. She was declawed and crotchety up until the last year. She became the most affectionate animal we have and I did everything I could, including holding her right up until her last breath. My mom always used to say we get all our pets back in Heaven. I'm going to have quite a wonderful herd there waiting to greet me. I'm sure you will too. I truly believe this. My kitty was doing great happy and healthy - but I took him in for rabies vaccine because we moved and I was afraid he'd go out into the yard and get bitten by a squirrel or rat - they talked me into the FELV vaccine - one month after receiving the FELV vaccination he suddenly has FELV. They spent a lot of time trying to calm me down explaining why it was impossible for it to have happened. My kitty had been indoor only cat and never met another cat except when he was a baby when I adopted him. |

Quoting: MoonSlice You killed it by not allowing the cat to go outside to convert sunlight into vitamin D. The cats only immune builder WRONGO, outdoor cats have a much shorter lifespan then indoors only. My first indoor outdoor cat lived 19 years, my second cat currently is 18. She goes outside occasionally on a leash and sometimes on her catio, the sun is blocked, which sucks but white cats are very prone to skin cancer. She’s just starting to slow down and show her age this past couple mouths, so your theory is incorrect. If you want your cat to have a long happy life, don’t let them outside unattended, if they get a disease from a diseased cat or cat fight, run over by a car, or eaten by a coyote, that is on YOU |
