Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78941484 Let them try. Watch what happens. WW3 is what happens. As far as the rest of us are concerned, all three of your countries can fuck off to oblivion if you think that's an acceptable thing to impose on the rest of humanity. The quest for certainty blocks the search for meaning. Uncertainty is the very condition to impel a man to unfold his powers. |

Even if they did, the supply lines would be long and subject to repeated interdiction by the US Navy and other allied navies. China's navy is not yet fully blue-water capable and not yet large enough to defend any supply lines. They can try to invade, but they won't get far. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 78874930 United States 05/22/2020 08:37 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | No, this will not happen until they have secured the strategic First Island Chain (South and East China Seas) for their push into the Pacific. In order to do this, they need to conquer Taiwan first. Watch for a Chinese invasion of Taiwan by end of the year. China has announced it will launch a massive "exercise" to practice amphibious invasion capabilities in August time-frame. In future years, would China try to take Australia? Anything is possible. Right now, they want Taiwan a whole lot more though, and its too close to the mainland not to try. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 35694435 United States 05/22/2020 09:41 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Devil's advocate mode here: History holds forth that China' great navigator Wen Ho may not have colonized, but certainly dropped in on the Middle East, Europe, the Americas when his ships set about mapping the planet's oceans. Whether this comprises a claim to whole continents or such claims were intended... Slave-girls handed out to leaders, handshakes, possibly talks of trade missions or something. No garrisons set up, no setting mastiffs onto the locals. Just a shoreline-hugging, tradewind-driven, mapmaking, goodwill-spreading juggernaut comprised of the mothership and hundreds of smaller boats. Pigs squealing, slaves chattering; it must have been an eyeful. And then... nothing. The emperor had died once the fleet made its way home, and new leadership weren't interested in expansion. Proof: The mothership's rudder survives, proving vessel's dimensions. The mechanisms drawn up by da Vinci in his journals and proposals to kings, judging from their non-European disregard for perspective, likely were copied from Chinese periodicals similar to "Popular Mechanics", left ashore by crewmembers on leave. Mass-produced tableware and trinkets all over the place. Crops grown in China that could only have originated from South America... etc. |
