Seems it would be cheaper for Venezuela to buy oil from the US.

Venezuela has little to no refining capacity at this time, so while they have crude oil they don't have gasoline diesel or other cracked products. The Iranian tankers are carrying 1.5 million bbl of those kinds of product.

If it sounds like I'm a know-it-all, I'm not - I just read the article. Which although filled with falsehoods, is what it is.

perhaps you might be interested enough to look into where we get our light sweet crude from that keeps our big port refineries operating.. Hint. We mainly drill,extract and process mainly natural gas.. We import our oil from sand countries.. Our refineries would have to be shut down, overhauled and retrofitted with new equipment and a completely different processing set up in order for us to begin refining what we have(sour/heavy crude) and even then the yield from that would only be minimal with more hazardous by product thanthat which would be usable.. It's why our currency is called the petro dollar.. If we can't control the supply of the resources of other oil rich countries our money has nothing backing it.. Kinda why these last 4-5 wars have all been over there!

Venezuela has a more free market capitalism then the USA . U can sell what u want want from your house. No gov stooges will bother u. Try that in the USA and see how fast the gov will shut your food stand down.
The USA gov only protects huge companies, while trying to kill off the little guy.Venezuela’s gov for the most part leaves the people alone. People sell everything from their yard tomatoes , beef , sugar ,pirated movies , u name it . It’s a great place when the USA is not trying to destroy it.
