Seafood only, about same price, no d meat.

I only buy my meat once a year, freezer is full, half steer was $4.09/lb hanging weight (cut-n-wrapped). Steer was grass fed, grain finished at 100 days. When it was inspected it was graded prime, I lucked out this year!

Some of you may already know this, but I’ll put it out for those that don’t. All groceries have “hook” sales to get you in the door so you buy other shit.
Example our chain is running 99 cent a pound sirloin pork chops. I cut about 1200lbs today . Our cost on it is 97 cents a pound as of this weeks shipment. Same thing is done weekly with other products. You take a lose( prep time, packaging etc) so that you sell other higher priced products . Thing is that now , those higher price items are really high. Lady asked for management today saying our price on sirloin tip roasts had to be wrong and we were price gouging. 10.99 lb( usually 3.99-4.99lb)
Every day low pricing shit has went out the window cause ALL of the stores different chains are fighting the same monster. Combine this covid scam, plant closures, break in supply chains, not to mention last years major flooding in certain areas , well, you get disaster depending on where you are and the abilities of the farms, etc in your area. Add in the trillions of bs dollars being injected into the economy with a lot going to big gov/Corp and chicken scratch given out to the mass, well, hyperinflation is here and gonna get worse. Most on here know all this, as it was somewhat planned and somewhat taking advantage of opportunities a aiable to our government.
My suggestion is that you shop the sales when you can, stock up what you can, also find a local selling beef or pork for slaughter and buy from them, if you can. Most locals are so backed up around here, they can find the cattle , but the butchers are backed up 2-3 months for what they can process.

Yes it will. Take into account that most of the meat you get has already been vacuum packed, frozen and thawed in larger portions. Then it gets processed at a local level( cut , trimmed and packaged, not vacuum packed but just foam tray and plastic sheet wrapped) . It’s went through the process of vacuum packaging being broken then meat exposed to air, cutting block, blades,saws for another time before you purchase. Therefore it’s in the consumers best interest to thaw in refrigerated environment.
Hope this helps explain it. Before all of this situation we rarely received frozen beef and pork . This tells me the back stock of thawed product was not a available and they were shipping directly from frozen stock without the extra step of refrigerated thawing at warehouse levels.

Well, my meat dangles in the water when I sit down to take a dump. I kind of wish it was four or five in shorter.

It's fine here. My husband went to the store early this morning and I asked him to take a gander at the meat section - he said they had ribs, steaks, hamburg, hot dogs - all the things one would want to buy for the Memorial Day weekend.

What you call "hook" sales are called "loss-leaders" in the industry and they've been around since the 1920's. Savvy shoppers can spot them a mile away and take advantage of the stores by walking in and ONLY buying those deeply discounted items. And, they'll always subscribe to store e-mail lists so they see those ads before they hit the general public in printed form.

As far as meat is concerned, it's currently front/center as a consumer lure. This week, my local Save A Lot advertised T-Bone steaks at $3.99/lb. [Kroger's "sale" price is $8.99/lb, down from their current $15.99]; I knew immediately they'd only have a very limited quantity so I was waiting when they unlocked their doors the first day of the sale. The Butcher was stocking cold cuts and told me he hadn't cut the steaks yet, but was going to do a "bunch of them" and have them in the case around noon.

I returned at 11:15 and discovered he'd only made enough display space for a dozen packages - half of which were already gone. I grabbed my two [the posted limit] and was grateful I got those... and the next day, not only were there no steaks, but there wasn't even a place for them in that case! That was last Wednesday and nothing's changed since. BUT: I ended up with about $80 in T-bones that I paid $21 for.

Same thing happened last week when this same store advertised 12oz packs of Bacon at 2/$4- which sold out faster than cheap seats at a Rolling Stones concert. It took me five more trips to that store to finally catch a single carton in that display and was again lucky to snag some... that time I bought FOUR. Luckily that store is only three blocks away so they were easy trips to make!

BUT: last week also brought something else I've NEVER seen before: a store NOT honoring their advertised pricing! This store had 5lb chubs of 73% Ground Beef advertised at $2.49/lb. or $12.50/each. But the store quickly posted a notice saying that -due to shortages- that item was cancelled from the ad. Consequently their case was stocked with chubs priced out at $19.95.. and that case was packed with about 400 pounds of hamburger... some shortage! Four days later -on the day they expired- they were finally trayed up and sold at the advertised price of $2.49/lb. Luckily my freezer's been full since January and now I'm only topping it off with stuff I normally wouldn't buy... and only IF I get it at a really good price!

BOTTOMLINE: if you see a loss-leader in ANY ad be prepared to work a little bit to snag those bargains because these days they are few and FAR between... especially when it comes to meat!

BTW: local meat lockers have likewise jacked up their prices. One local premium vendor just doubled the cost of their Ground Beef; two weeks ago a 30# bundle ran $102. Today it's $220. The sad thing? Comparatively speaking, that's STILL a bargain.

They don't even advertise beef in the flyer because it's so expensive. Hamburger was 6 dollars a pound. You can't touch beef. Hamburger is only sold in 1 and 1 and a half pounds and supplies are limited. I can't afford beef as long as the prices are where they are. Pork isn't as bad but we don't like pork.

Oddly, despite all those Tyson plants closing, Chicken is still a very good price locally [and there's a couple of those closed plants 200 miles away]. Luckily, I've been buying those ten-pound bags of mutant hindquarters [the legs/thighs that come off 12lb. Chickens bred primarily for their breast meat] for about a decade since they are always cheaper. A regular price is .59/lb which is one Hell of a deal if you don't mind the work it takes to process them out at home. In previous times, I've actually bought them to use as Cat food because it was waaaay cheaper than canned Friskies! Not anymore!

Last week they were on sale for only .39/lb [only $3.90 for a 10# bag!] - a rock-bottom price I have't seen in over two years. I didn't need any since I already had over 20# in the freezer, but I alerted my family to grab them while they could and they topped off their freezers as well. But, the store never did run out of all that Chicken during that sale.

In any event, that's incredibly CHEAP Protein!

Central MN. Chicken and pork is fine. You can sometimes find ground beef if you get in early enough, but no steaks or large roasts. If you do find some they are way more expensive now, by about 50%.

NNJ here....I notice a trend in 3 supermarkets.....they're slicing the steaks thinner to hide the high prices and to fill up the meat case....thick steaks are available but not many in the case....they're using the same strategy similar to other products.....half filling normal sized containers instead of raising prices.....

I'm in AR and beef prices have been going up. I paid close to $7/lb for 80/20 hamburger meat last week. Everything else in the beef section was gone, except for the filet mignon. I didn't even bother to look at the price.

Upstate NY. limits on all meat. Prices way up. Chop meat prices down, after fast and big price increase, over last 3 weeks. Meat is finally fully stocked, everywhere.You name it, its here. FINALLY !!!!!

Its been said here over and over,whats in the warehouse now may be the last time you see it for a while.I got a new fan for heater,factory was out,and found one across the country at someones website.Its a special fan too,so got lucky?

Oh,oh,got really lucky,a neighbor sold us 7 chicks,2 for a family member.We havent done eggs in a few years,and chicks are hard to find here.But i can find something to feed em.Hope we didnt get 7 roosters!
