anyone that claims they have mastered the guitar is insane, yeah you might be real good , but claiming to be amazing at every technique is ignorant

"I am in Abbey Road Studios making a new album.

The Hey Jude piano is in eyesight.

If I went over and played it, it’s not gonna write a song of that calibre for me.

It’s gonna sound like a hack piano player playing in the key of G.

In hindsight, I would trade some of my playing ability for songwriting ability without hesitation"

Well, after rocking the shitz out of it for 20 years, i had to learn certain things to be able to express certain emotions and tones from the inside.
Tbh, i gave up on theory.
Yes, i went through all those 7 keys for maybe 5 years, but after then i gave a shit again, beause it never ends, no matter wich way to take.
Its a freaking universe.

Right there, you proved yourself a musician. In my years, I've found that no matter how good I was, the moment I had a self-aggrandizing thought, a better player materialized right before my eyes.

Totally agree with the bit about songwriting. There are few instruments I can't and haven't played, but would give all but the piano up to be able to write a really good song.

If you haven't already, you should watch the movie "Yesterday." Deals with the magic of songwriting. Exceptionally good movie.

On, and by the way, the song is actually "Hey, Dude." :-)

If you've seen the movie, you'll get that.

As my fellow students learned when they made the mistake of sitting too close to me in Music Theory class in college.

I had very good tonal hearing, but absolutely no vocal control. In other words, I was usually a bit off-key, but always knew it.

The biggest mistake i made was learning economy picking in the first year of learning to play then sticking to it for 20 yrs.. its so ingrained i cannot reverse it. With economy picking you can only play certain runs with certain amount of notes on each string and such. Im always struggling with generalized picking playing fast ie alternate picking.

The 2nd biggest mistake is i went 20 yrs playing tensed up. It hinders your playing greatly especially fast playing... You have to relax like a zen freaking monk. playing the guitar is a delicate thing.

Re: Guitar & Music Tards - An Article Regarding Mastering Technique!
I started playing guitar seriously as a teen, then I learnt of Guthrie Govan and wanted to throw my guitar away, as I'd never be that good (and never will be)

But I persevered and I'm a hell of a lot better than I was as a teen, and was fortunate enough to make money doing so... (OR I was until they closed all the venues!)

You can never master music, that's why it's so magical.

I was lucky to be in a master class with Guthrie years ago, here's an example teaching from 13 years ago!

It's regarding playing in modes, if anyone wants a description before watching.. It's only a couple minutes.

Re: Guitar & Music Tards - An Article Regarding Mastering Technique!
I'm pretty good myself. There's nothing I cant play. But... I got alot of players I like. I do think Guthrie govan is the man is a all around way. Also hes so well spoken and can explain in such a great way. And funny. I like to many styles. Actually I was a little bit of a piano prodigy but I only had a cheap keyboard. But I had a real guitar. So I quit piano and focused on guitar. But I'm 35 now and started playing piano again. I get better at guitar by playing piano and studying. I make like lofi hip hop instrumentals and jazzy piano and guitar . Funky. Well whatever I come up with. Not very guitar heavy. And even when I do I dont go full shred. Most my songs If I do any solo guitar I just bang it out and just keep what sounded ok. But I do play bass and drums. So there's only so many hours in the day to practice guitar . Really I don't play guitar as much as other instruments. There's too much to learn. Jazz classical neo soul funk. I love joe pass lenny breu wes Montgomery. Scotty anderson. Danny gatton. Guthrie govan. Josh smith. I sound like a more bluesy yngwie malmsteen. But less baroque and more Santana.
